Spread axel truck - what is the purpose?

    Actually I just looked it up on fmcsa's website and anything between 40 and 97 inches is rated for 38,000 lb. Learn a new thing everyday.

    We had two short tanks, I think there were originally the rear tanks on a B train, used a lot for lube oil mostly back to Ontario or Quebec. In error one was loaded for a trip to Ohio and the driver remembered that the extra 'spread' might make the short barrel still scale. It did.
