Spread Axle Kingpin, Florida enforcement.

    Trailers are getting longer every year. Now we have 56' and 57 footers. All legal but only if you're permitted. The important thing, unless you have a permit is you have to maintain the 41' or less distance between the Kingpin and the center of the Tandems, or if you have a Spread Axle, the center of the rear Axle. Big D.O.T. is coming down hard on the State D.O.T.'s as of late.

    There are no stupid questions. Yes 53' Trailers are the most prevalent, but any over 48' are being Ticketed.

    Is it a standard , blanket, over length permit or does it go by a different name?

    It's called a Kingpin Blanket Permit, the Florida Permit Office is issuing them daily. Another note, if you already have an Overlength Permit, it will cover your Kingpin and no need to buy an additional Permit.
