Right now I have tandem axle reefer. When I haul water loads I am heavy on my drives. Tandems are all the way forward and I'm about 1k over on drives because of the way they load the water. Will a spread axle fix this? Getting ready to by another trailer and trying to decide if spread is worth it.
Empty full of fuel and apu.
    10960 steer
    14600 drives
    9680 trailer
    35240 total

fifth wheel is adjusted to be a little over 12k on steer full of fuel.

Can't you ask them to load you differently?

It will make the problem worse. Spread axle trailers have to be loaded light in the nose.

I heard, with a spread axle wagon, it's almost impossible to be over on the trailer. I thought with a spread, you can go 20K on an axle, or 40K for the wagon. No?

Yes. The trailer isn’t the problem,it’s the way that the load is positioned in the trailer.

I pull a spread axel. Yes you can have 40k on the trailer axels but it's not going to help the nose. It's all in the way they are loading the trailer. I have made shippers fully unload me to fix overweight issues. It is what it is. You will wear tires faster with a spread so think about that also. I generally only get about 12 - 14 months out of the tires on average. Most the time I have to replace them due to them chunking tread off rather then wear.

If they are putting two pallets in the nose - change it to one pallet in the nose and put the other pallet in the middle of the trailer as a single.

I pull a spread axle end dump and to go along with what you’re saying, yes. Unless the loader does something completely ridiculous, if I got 80k back there, I’m legal on axles.

Seems like the load has to be loaded 1/2/1in the nose and pull your trailer tandems back 3 to 4 hole spots. With for 44760 (minus your weight eg. 220 leaving you 44540 for your load) try to balance the load by 20% less in the nose.

The water load was supposedly 43176. I didn't stop for a weight ticket. My load Guage on drives was at around 35k or more.
When I'm getting loaded do I say "load 1/2/1 on the nose? I was at a robot load facility.
