( picture is front suspension springs, back bushings / pins ) ...
Is it normal practice to replace the front and back spring pin / bushings at the same time?
The reason I ask is, the front part of the spring is pin only and no bushing. I didn’t know if it’s still a wear item then? I’m sure it is at some point maybe...
The back spring pins have bushings.
The springs are popping pretty consistently now while turning, even at low speeds with low weight on the trailer.

There is at least one pin/bushing worn or at least dry and not taking grease properly. I would go to a mechanic who can jack the frame to take the weight off the pins and knows how to check for play. Any visible play means that pin can't grease evenly and the pin/bushing should be replaced. Loose front pins can affect wheel alignment and loose rear pins can or may cause minor loose steering and/or unpredictable minor steering corrections.

Typically the fronts don’t wear out, because they really don’t move hardly at all. Mine has rubber bushings, I’m sure the fronts need replaced, being rubber, and 20 yrs old. But on yours the popping is usually the rear bushings. Horton Roller bushings are a lot better than the original bushing type. Chances are you may need hangers and hanger brackets also. Depends if they’re egg holed or not.

Rear hanger looks a bit different than the older Volvo White GMCs. On those we always replaced the rear frame bracket.
Not many people can replace a rear spring bushing with the spring in the truck. We have a homemade jig thing that works on some. Normally we could remove the spring, rebush both ends, and reinstall faster than struggling with that. Then you know it is 100%.
If you have space between the shackels, hangers and or springs, you can have those noises with all new parts.Rideandrepair and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
Hmm.., yeah this is a gen 1 volvo after the gmc white... I might just let my shop take a look at this first before I say what needs to be done. I have a guy up there whos really good at what he does (mostly trans, clutch, wheel ends, driveline, suspension) and he’s honest, experienced and a straight shooter.
