I was wondering if anyone out there who runs across country has good service with Sprint. I usually run I-95 from Savannah Georgia up to
Lewiston Maine. Sometimes i also run I-87 in New Jersey and New York.
Their rates seen to be reasonable but worried about their coverage with a smartphone. Thanks for all replys.

I currently don't have Sprint, but I have been looking into them. I talked to a salesperson here in the Cheyenne store, and they told me when their service goes into roaming, they use Verizon towers. Not sure if thats true or someone just trying to make a sale.

I would ask also about if you have a lot of roaming minutes. I know of two drivers already had their carriers stop their service due to a lot of roaming minutes. Carriers do not understand that the driver will be in a different city everyday.

That's a bunch of horsecrap! :biggrin_25523: I tried sprint & tmobile for 30days each... Major cities were ok, cross country both sucked, so did Att, which I had for over 10 yrs. Verizon is the most expensive for a reason...

Funny thing you mentioned the sprint guy talking about Verizon... The tmobile guy I spoke with, actually had Verizon service :biggrin_2559: Even thought he gets everything unlimited for $30 from tmobile since he works there - still he said tmobile is good for text but looses calls.

Verizon is not perfect - drops calls sometimes across state lines or when switching from roaming back to Verizon towers. But overall, best service cross country, even thought it costs me about $140/month, it's worth it.

I sure use the hell out of Verizon... 2000-3000 mins, 5000-7000 texts, 14-18gb data every month.

I thought that sounded too good to be true. I'm glad someone could clarify that for me. Luckily I didn't sign with them.

If you're looking for the East coast, Sprint is the ticket. I've been with them for 10 years, and they are great in the East. Their covg in certain areas is terrible (NE/WY, but who DOES work there? lol)
But for the $$ you can't beat it. I had a student with Verizon, and mine actually worked more, and better than his did.
And when Sprint sayd UNLIMITED DATA, they MEAN IT! I go through 60-90 Gigabytes of bandwidth EVERY month! YES! 60-90 GIGS

Was with Sprint for 8 years. Last December they decided to finally cut me off.

The reason was excessive roaming use.

After several conversations with a number of Sprint people, I was informed of a plan change that took effect back in 2010.
Sprint has placed caps on roaming. If you are not using a Sprint signal, then you are roaming.
The roaming applies to any and all accounts, even "unlimited" accounts ( thats what my plan was)

Here is what I learned from them.

Maximum roaming minutes in any billing cycle is 800.

If you get close to that in any three consecutive billing cycles, you get put on a "watch list"
If you exceed the 800 min. in any billing cycle, you will get a notice in your statement.
If you exceed the 800 min. in any three consecutive billing cycles, you will get a letter from them.
The letter will tell you that you are now placed on the "excessive roam list" and a number to call.
If you call the number, you will get a person that will tell you all the ways you can limit your "roaming ways"

Once placed on the "excessive roaming list" you never get off.

Continue to be an "excessive roamer" and you will be sent a letter of termination.
They will then cut you off and place you on a no account list.

My roaming was between 1000 and 1200 minutes a billing cycle.

As part of the change they made in 2010, ALL of Wyoming, the Dakotas, Montana and Nebraska are roaming.
As is most of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, the exceptions being the major cities in these states.

Guess where I run the most.......

I've been with Sprint since 2002. I use a lot of bandwidth never had any issues with roaming. I have 5 lines on my account 1500 minutes shared, unlimited data on all phones. I've never had overage charges after going on the unlimited data plan. I'm even tethered to my phone now. I record shows on my computer at home and download them to my PC. I also watch all my favorites online when I have a strong 3G connection.
