Check Verizon again. According to their website, 18 GB is 100 bucks on their newest data programs. And you can buy even more, if you want. Their website shows 100 GB is available, but it is 750 bucks. I am on an older plan currently, and get 10 GB for 95 bucks. That 8 GB for 100 you mentioned must be a really old plan or something.

I have the 18gig plan with verizon. My bill is $161 after surchages and fees and taxes.

    $128 without the BS fees.

$100 for 18gigs, $20 for line fee or whatever it is, $8 for BS fee.

i'll have to look at the bill for exact rundown.

Can't remember which thread i was on, but the one unlimited hotspot data plan i was looking into for Verizon a grandfathered line for 250/mo is now 198/mo. i've looked at t-mobile and don't like the coverage. the Att and verizon offers today are way expensive. $710 for 100GB is crazy. and Att is worse. my car payment isn't that much.

I have the Sprint unlimited everything plan that I got with my new Iphone 6+ so I'm at least good for 2 years before my contract renewal. All for $50 a month.

what do you think of sprint coverage? And I think we are talking about two different things with voice and data. Most of the issue is with data, not voice.

I travel all over the country and happy with it. The phone always works everywhere and is also free to roam but the data is slow or non existent in bad areas. I can pay for roaming data but I don't want to. I use my Flying J points to buy internet time for the whole year.

The $50 a month does not allow me to use my phone as a hot spot. I have a Sprint WIFI hot spot also and that is $100 a month for 6gig of data.

Did you get the hotspot under a business plan? I'm researching a promotion from Sprint for businesses, even sole proprietors for $50/mo unlimited.

You can root your phone and download a hotspot app. They all require root in order to work. No need to pay for mobile hotspot. I don't. Someday. Sprint might change their technology like what verizon once had. Where it detects wether you have the mobile plan or not. But even verizon changed that policy and now includes mobile as standard. I think sprint is doing the same thing these days.

Might look in to it and dump that $100 6 gig plan unless you need it.

    They don't all require root.
Specifically FoxFi works on VZW with most all Samsung Phones. (No Root).

Really not a big issue unless you have the unlimited plan since Hotspot is blocked on it.

Verizon note 2 came with a stock app. If you use foxfi or anything else. It took over the stock app. So you had 2 apps using the same code. So there's no need for a different app on verizon.
Mobile was part of the subscription. No way to get around not having it.

Sprint note2 also came with a stock app. It didn't work unless subscribed. Foxfi also didn't work. Unless subscribed. Root with wifi tether app worked without subscription.

That was 2 years ago up to last year when the last os upgrade came out. Don't know how it is now with whatever phones.

I don't see either carrier offering mobile with their phone plans these days. Looks like a standard feature now
