PDANet claims to hide it's usage. I've talked to plenty of people who have gotten busted using PDANet over at AT&T and Verizon.

As long as you aren't tethering, you should be ok. According to Sprint, usage on the phone itself is not affected. If you spent 5 minutes of that tethering though, all bets are off.

    Dieselboss Thanks this.

    I USE 80-90GIGS every month!! I have used 4Gb today ALONE! I download movies/music/tv shows 24/7
    rooted, wireless tether.
NO issues...been doing this since the 1st of the year.
They did scold me for my ROAMING data usage, so I simply disabled 3G roaming

What really annoyed me was that the CEO of Sprint (Dan?) goes on TV sounding all soft and 'gentle' like:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlkT7gRM0xo[/ame]

Seems Sprint needs to lookup the word UNLIMITED again....

No one is grandfathered. Unlimted on the phone itself, does remain....

PdaNet should work fine as a teather...I have been using it and had no issues but some people seem to have.
    Not sure why that is.
One thing I really find annoying is the Sprint plan to migrate over to LTE and while they still
claim they will support WiMax, any new area rollout of 4G will be LTE.

None of the Sprint phones today (all being sold with 2yr contracts) can run on LTE.

How's that gonna work for ya?

Gee, as bad as Verizon was with billing, their 4G (LTE) is much wider available and performs much better than this hodgepodge WiMax junk.
Wimax was something with Clearwire that showed promise until the money evaporated....

I told verizon straight up that I tether my phone. She tried to get me to buy their stupid tethering plan (more money to put a 2gb limit on my unlimited phone) and I told her that the phone was sold to me with tethering as a selling point. Every sales rep at every store they have will tell you that you can tether the phone just like it is, no extra fees, no problem. That makes it company policy and if they wanted to fight about it, we could have it out very loudly in court. They shut up and left me alone.

On a side note, the reason I called them is because some idiot stuck in the 80's in their IT department decided that FTP's were a threat and banned them all. If you need a driver for your scanner off the HP FTP server so you can do your job, tough ####, according to verizon.

Had the same issue with the Verizon Manager - it would not connect to the FTP sites. This went on for several months. They said I need a business plan.. So I asked them if they knew what a FTP site was. Nope. Mention to them that they should learn what an FTP site is before they talk about it. Finally got the IT site in SC and the manager knew what I was talking about. Breath of fresh air. I had to download another program to add to the Verizon Manager to allow FTP sites.

I've never been a Verizon customer, so I don't know how they do things, but I've been with AT&T, Sprint, and now Virgin Mobile. I usually run without the connection software.

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Not only do I not run the connection software, I don't think you even can use it for tethering.

I myself have a full price paid no contract 4G LTE Motorola xoom tablet. I agree with verizon about stopping these "UNLIMITED" plans. I have a 4G teared plan myself I buy the amount of GBs I will need in a given month. People abuse the unlimited plans and others on the congested networks suffer for it. Also, I can tether my xoom tablet if I wish to with no extra charge Verizon doesn't care as I have bought and paid for my allotment of GB service. They don't care how you use your 4G GBs and don't slow down your service because you are doing large downloads. If you need more on line time, to cut on line expense, well there is WYFI in most truck stops and in many other places. I am a heavy on line user but I have yet to use even 40% of the bandwidth I pay for each month. My cost each month for my 4G service is $30.00. Paying full price for your device up front has its perks and it saves you money.

See typically, less than 5% of cell users, use 90% of the data.
Yet we all suffer one way or the other.

People (friends I have) stream and download movies up the wazoo. GIGs and GIGs of data and seem to feel it's their God given right....yet the simple guy (like me) that downloads less than 1GB /mo is still capped and I cant get a cut rate for being considerate on the network.
For October, I used 140MB of data...thats NOTHING! - I use WiFi wherever I can get it, especially if it's free.

Seems odd that the moment Verizon and now Sprint started offering the iPhone, poof gone went UNLIMITED data.
Maybe they should just charge these iPhone users accordingly instead of punishing all of us.

I mean there must be a catch as both carriers did this...right? :biggrin_2554:
