I've been thinking about that rooting stuff but I'm kind of afraid to attempt it since for one, you have to be like, at least a first or second degree black belt in computer geek and two, if done wrong, you can brick your phone. As far as warranty goes, I've almost had my phone for a year so voiding the warranty isn't a concern.

clearly you haven't done your homework...
With my Epic, rooting was a 3 step process, and took less than 10 minutes.
The I just got another Epic (old one was replaced by Sprint) and bought my wife one also.
I had them both rooted, and with a hybrid ROM (basically an ICS emulator) within 10 minutes.
Battery life is soooo greatly improved on most of the custom ROM/kermels you are doing yourself a great disservice by leaving it stock
Not to mention, being able to use the HotSpot feature for free -
Also, how do you do this and still get software and firmware updates? What about prl updates?
If anything, I'd be happy with removing all the bloatware off my operating system. -
