I bought a sprint two days ago. I returned it first thing the next morning. It didn't work anywhere and there data doesn't work off of there network (which is very tiny) and I mainly bought it for data. They flat out lied to me and told me they have a sharing agreement with US cellular. I specifilly asked this because I have a us cell tower in my back yard. Well I stood underneath it and got no signal, even when I forced it to roam. I have since found out they DON'T have us cell agreements. It was cheap but that doesn't help if it doesn't work. Oh plus they told me they had the software download for Vista to run the phone as modem and they do not have it and don't know when they will get it according to there tech dpt.
I went and got Verizon wth an aircard. I seem to really like it so far. They DO us the us cell towers and there data modem works on there network or the us cell extended network. only it's not broadband on the extended. It's still faster than the dialup I have at the house though (ya, I'm that far in the bonnies) Headed to Oregon this week so I'l put it to the test then.
Only bad thing is Verzon is much priceyer than sprint so if you do local in a good sprint area they may still be the better option. They had me set up with an unlimited data ackage (for the ohone not really meant for laptop but they told me as lng as I ddn't stream video it would be okay) for $15.99 mo wich beats the $39.99 for unlimited laptop type internet package. The verizon I have now is $59.99 mo but since I can use it on extended network I can use it at home on my desktop computer which means I can cancell my home phone and dialup access which saves me $45 or $50 a month.
Sprint sucks, trying verizon now

I had Sprint internet last year. I liked the service. They had good coverage east of the mississippi but west left much to be desired. If you stayed close to the interstates, you are pretty much OK. As soon as you get more then a few miles form the Interstate, you lose coverage unless you are near a metro area. They were improving thier network when I dropped them.
One warning about Verizon. I have several friends who were using their Verizon accounts and Verizon shut them down for "Excessive Overuse" of the system. One of the guys left his browser on a page that automatically refreshed every 5 minutes for about 6 hours. They shut him off for that. If you do ANYTHING other then surf a bit, email or look at a website, you WILL be shut down, which I think is a crock of POO! If I am paying $60 a month for internet, I best be able to use it the way I want to. I NEVER had that problem with Sprint.
I hope you have good luck with them but be prepared to NOT be able to use the net in the way you want to. -
Like I said, we'll see. I have 30 days to find out and I'm online alot. Alot of services have usage limits. I was on satalite internet and they had the same thing and it was more than $60 a month.
I had sprint years and years ago when they first started and there network hasn't changed much since back then. Same thing, if you are on the interstate you'r okay. two miles of it and your out of luck. and nothing out west. Plus I don't get off on being blatently lied to. -
Ive been using a Sprint aircard and had no problems out west. I just drove from Vegas to Northern Oregon and only lost connection 1 time when I was out in the boonies in Oregon. I chose Sprint over Verizon because Verizon will charge, if not cancel, if you go over 5G, even though they claim unlimited usage. Verizon blatantly lies to you in this usage respect. Sprint will definitely roam! Make sure you have it set up right. The networks have changed soooooooo much in the last year alone. More and more EVDO areas are opening up. Ive tried both Verizon and Sprint and Sprint beat Verizon in speed every time. Do some google searches on tweaking your laptop for optimum performaqnce. I gained almost 400 kbps (in an EVDO area) by doing some basic tweaks. Once you leave an EVDO area don't expect much more 125 kbps at best. At least you can bail out within 30 days if you don't like it.

I haven't had any problem with Sprint. I go out West a lot and there are some dry areas through AZ and NM but I can usually get on. And their EVDO coverage is really growing so that in most cities you get good speed. I had Cingular before and prefer Sprint. I've never had Verizon.
This is a really good site for everything EVDO. It has information about Verizon, Sprint, and others.
