sputter after changing fuel filter

    I have changed my fuel filter 2 times and everytime after I change it the truck will sputter a little bite when I crank it...anybody have any ideas as to what it could be??? cummins m11 + 1997 freightliner dump truck ...I remove the old gasket when I change it so it should not be that...its like its getting air for a second then fuel..and it don't do it all the time ..

    What brand of filter? I have bad luck with fleetguard doing this. Its almost like the o-ring they give you is junk.

    well is it ok after a few minutes
    then ok after that?
    if so it just caught a lil air and bleeds itself out

    its a baldwin and yes after I start it its fine....

    I don't know about the M11, but the ISX has 2 pumps, an electric lift pump, which if it goes bad or is weak, will give you those kind of symptoms until the main pump catches.

    It is getting a little air.
    It should smooth out in just a few seconds. If so, then it's fine. That's normal.

    CAT engines have a priming pump that allows you to push the air through the system after changing filters. Sometimes I do that, and sometimes I just let it sputter for a couple seconds. :D

    on my old cat it could run 5 min with no fuel...so assum it could run baddly with for 5 min beofre the filter reprimes.

    Sounds like it is getting air, I wonder if i will seal itself after a while? Not a mechanic but I know a few! Thanks.
