I like the Rocky and Bullwinkle episode when they put "Upsedaisyism" in their tires so the car would become airborne.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but, something like this doesn't seem too far gone for one of these no morality trucking companies to try. The technology is definitely possible and considering that even schools get busted for recording kids at home from their laptops, I wouldn't put it past a company that views you as a trained monkey.
zentrucking, trucker43 and I_HATE_MINIVANS Thank this. -
Actually, what you have in the truck is the same equipment we have at Linde. It is called the Iteris Lane Departure Warning system. It is a video camera (with microphone) that tracks the trucks movements between the lane markers. When it detects that the vehicle has gone six inches over the white lines, you get that loud "buzz" in either the left or right speaker depending upon what lane you crossed. It then activates the video camera/microphone and records one minute of video and sound. Hard braking also activates the system. The system can record internal and external cab sounds, and can be tied into either Qualcomm or in our case PeopleNet EOBR's to send an email with the video the system has recorded. What your company is probably concerned about is that during your cell phone conversations you are losing focus and your truck is crossing the white lines. JMHO, but you may want to make your cell calls when you are parked..Not to defend your company, but if their vehicle is wandering between the lines a lot, I'd be concerned too. If you think this is spyware, you should check out DriveCam. We used to have that and it's a LOT more invasive. Internal and external cameras that can be activated anytime and video/audio taken. We went to Iteris this year and as long as you don't "wander" or slam on the brakes, it's a bit better as far as privacy.

Truck drivers don't talk on their cell phones while they're driving... they are professional, aren't they?

An't it illegal to spy on employees???There are spy cams yes but it illegal in most states on less the person your spying on gives you written consent to do so.If that's true, then I would quit or talk to a lawyer, you may have a law suite.Any way you look at it,that sounds kinda hard to believe, just saying...
