Sorry "Joey", it only records when the driver starts deviating from his lane..Which I think is the point of this thread...The cell phone usage (maybe even texting) causes the vehicle to operate erratically, which in turn necessitates these devices. In my company at least, (Linde), they don't have a problem with cell phones, they just don't want us using them while the vehicle is in motion. At first I was a bit skeptical, but each day I see some so called "professional truck driver" in heavy Southern California traffic with a phone screwed in his/her ear so engrossed in their conversation they don't realize (or maybe they don't care) they are weaving and/or driving erratically.

That is true, I had a truck driver run a red light on Bandini and hit me and the video from DriveCam did prove my statements to the police.

Me neither...no problems..Don't cross the white lines...No issues.

Would any company be stupid enough to put recording or video devices into the sleeper. I sure hope not. You have an expectation of privacy in you living quarters. After all the courts have ruled that LEOs have to have a warrent to search the sleeper.

I'm running one of the new quallcom systems as well and never ran into this problem. I have a headset that I use to talk to my pain in the a.....haem i mean girlfriend And I've never seen anything like this.... if your saying it tracks through bluetooth its complete bullS because it would physically be paired to your phone... and cannot automatically pair to it. The only thing i know about the Quallcom that they can really b*** at you over is a hard break incident. I had 2 of them in a row because of retarded 4 wheelers The tattle tail reports it you jump on the phone with your travel agent blame it on the 4 wheeler and be done with it... i dont believe they video stream or have rumple strip detectors... if they did mine would be going off all day as i hit the rumple strips every now and than.

Something tells me they wouldn't mention that feature on their website. Trucking companies pay millions of dollars to equip an entire fleet with these things. Whenever they're dealing with sales of that magnitude, the company heads have meetings with sales reps. That's something they wouldn't want to publicize but would certainly be something carriers would want.

**** I couldn't even replace the dang visor clip in my company's Kenworth T-660! It broke, wouldn't hold the visor so I got a new one from the parts room at my company's shop, didn't have 4 hours to wait for the mechanics to finish playing football in the parking lot so I tried changing it at a truck stop later that day. It was just one screw, how hard is that?? Well when I went to put the new one on, there wasn't nothing in the overhead for the screw to screw into! It's like there was a nut in there that got lost. Why the F they would design it that way is beyond me. I would've had to take half the truck apart to get back there so I just left it that way.

Another objection I have about taking the dash apart is that unless you get it back together PERFECTLY meaning do this in a dealer's lot so you can replace any little plastic clips that break, you're going to end up with a truck that rattles all day long.

That's gotta the best post I've seen in this entire thread so far! A GREAT idea.:biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525:

Nice union contract y'all got at that company. :biggrin_25513:

Here's a link to DriveCam's website. Watch the video.

Any driver who knowingly gets in a vehicle with this type of system in it doesn't deserve his 4th amendment rights anyway.:biggrin_25513:

That little window looking box in the top left hand corner of the mcp200 is a light sensor..it determines when it is daylight and dark. If that is what you are refering to. I have had drivers try to convince me that it was a camera, but its not.

My company has the OmniVison system. I can't find it on Qualcomm's website. It's not the OmniTracks system, it's newer than that. It's got e-logs, and a bunch of features they don't want to pay extra for like e-mail and navigation and stuff.
It's also got the light sensor. It's a pain in the ### because you move your hand over it and the screen lights up or goes dark. I put a piece of electrical tape over it so it always thinks it's dark and it makes the screen brighter so I can actually see it.

And in our contract is a provision that we can't be disciplined or fired for any action involving these systems with the exception of deliberate vandalism or tampering..Get used to it, its coming to a lot of companies. And we do have a good contract...At least we are protected as opposed to the "non's"...
