this is why we are losing more rights every day. this country is going to h#$l with it`s nanny state! it might save your butt but why is it so hard to believe that these scumbag companies wouldn`t turn this against you? the roads aren`t any safer with all these stupid things going on than it was when i started the first time in 91. invasion of privacy is bs. no matter how you look at it. i will NEVER work for anybody who has anything remotely like this stuff! no electronic logs, no tracking devises none of it and if it becomes manditory even with my own truck then i guess i`ll be an outlaw!! people it`s way past time to stand up for yourself! last i knew this was still the united states of america not the united states socialist republic like it`s turning into :biggrin_25516:.. rant over i need a coffee.

What you are forgetting is that they OWN that equipment and can do with it what they wish. If they wish to paint it pink and put rainbow flags on the tank, they can. You cannot tell a company what to do with their personal property as long as they pay the bills. Driving that vehicle is a completely voluntary act and if I choose to go elsewhere, then that is up to me. It would be like me telling an owner operator who is paying for his own truck what to do with it. We protected ourselves from most ramifications from this equipment and what some are forgetting is, it only activates when the DRIVER makes an error, or voluntarily turns it on to protect himself/herself. As far as the IBT "going along"...a lot of both union and non-union carriers are installing this stuff. And it's kind of a "non-issue", because most of us drive in a professional manner and these systems can prove that point also. I'd like to see all these people screaming "privacy" go to their companies and tell them what they can install and can't install in THEIR vehicles. Let's see how far that goes.

"Privacy" does not apply when you are driving someone else's vehicle. These ONLY activate when the driver makes an error..I think some people just wish to continue to hide their poor driving habits under the guise of "privacy"..I'm not a "fan" of these things, I've just learned to live with it.

You're driving a CMV on a public highway.... YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO PRIVACY. Once you go to line 4; any right to privacy you had goes right out the window.

Rights aren't rights if they can be taken away. As a living organism, the only right you have is the right to die. Anything else that comes between birth and death is a privilege. You don't have a right to drive.

The purpose of these devices isn't to impede on your 'right' (as you put it) to privacy. The devices are there to protect both the company and you as a driver.

I think a driver does have a reasonable expectation of privacy. There is no statement anywhere, that I am aware of, that says by virtue of your occupation of being a CMV operator that you agree to forego that right even if only while at "work." And I know for sure that I have never signed such a document, nor would I.

A CMV operator does agree to operate within the scope of certain regulations and to be available to certain inspections to ensure they are upholding those same regulations.

I think anybody that would agree to drive a CMV equipped with a camera to monitor their driving deserves the company they get.

Even most law enforcement vehicle recorders are only activated during an "event" which could lead to someone being charged with a crime or certain other circumstances. Go ahead and ask various law enforcement personnel what they think of the idea of their entire workshift being recorded. After all, they shouldn't have anything to fear, they are enforcing the law, not breaking it. Right?

You are correct that driving isn't a right, it is a privilege and anyone who thinks otherwise is a dummy.

However, as a citizen and/or resident of the U.S. there are several other, inalienable, rights to which you are entitled. There is a document in the U.S. called the "Bill of Rights" which discusses them. You may want to read about it so here is a link to get you started. Several other countries also have a bill of rights or similar document. It is an interesting concept that goes back a couple of thousand years. Here is another link that may be of interest to you.

Alternatively, there are still many countries in this world that do not bestow such luxuries upon their citizens and if you find the rights in the U.S. objectionable or too much of a bother you could probably move to one of those aforementioned countries.

You should seek medical help immediately! You've been drinking the poisoned Kool-Aid for too long, it's affecting your central nervous system and tricking your brain into thinking you're a sheep. Your only hope is to take the founders' red pill, available on XM & Sirius on the Mike Church show.

I prefer Andrew Wilkow myself. But that's a different discussion for a different part of forum.
