Six, you're a liar. You're just trying to scare us young'uns away so you can keep all the money yourself.
Just because you old farts are too stupid to make it doesn't mean I can't. How freaking hard could it be. It's only driving. I love to travel and I watched all the YouTube videos on how to succeed with trucking so I know what I'm doing. Do us all a favor and stop posting BS on these boards.

Jesus this post applies to every 'easy money' idea anybody ever had. Assuming no special skills (and special skills are not easy to acquire... the very few I have took years and years of practice) there is no 'easy money' anywhere on planet earth. In fact any time something looks so good it blows your mind you should be very suspicious.

The truck in front of me was some random daycab, so I can see him not having a hammer, but the one that was having issues closing his door was a Landstar trailer, so I'm assuming a Lanstar o/o. Yea, he didn't even have a hammer....
How can an o/o ever succeed if he doesn't even have a hammer,? To me that's as needed as diesel.
(And btw, I do carry a hammer, if for no other reason than to thump tires when pre-tripping)blairandgretchen, QuietStorm, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -

1. Drivers are not able to agree on what to strike for. Not all of us are mistreated. Not all of us are underpaid. Not all of us hate ELDs. Find something that all drivers can agree upon. The other driver in the other thread was complaining about his companies he worked for, the lease deals, and the customers. After last night, he will have bad things to say about TTR. He would be one of those guys talking about better treatment. That would be like a lot lizard demanding better prices for her dope, better treatment from pimps, and cleaner meat from her customers. "Want some commercial company? Well, you have to go take a shower and pay me to wait here." Ugly, smelly and disgusting with pocked marked skin, 1 black tooth stump in your head and you're making demands. I'd prefer to keep my money. If you want better treatment, be a better person and do a better job and work for a better company. Not all working girls are roaming parkinglots and street corners for crack. Some have mansions and Italian cars, GREAT TITs and beautiful hair and teeth. If everyone in your world is living under bridges and smell like arse, that's your fault. You should have aimed higher when you started out.SavageMuffin, VTech, BigBob410 and 12 others Thank this. -

Dispatcher brought me in to look at their lease deal. The lease had a weekly payment. The issue I have with that is if a driver is on a lease deal where he has a weekly truck payment, every time he goes home, he gets penalized. Every time the truck breaks down, he gets penalized. If a trucking company really appreciates their drivers, why do they do a weekly payment? IMHO, it's WRONG! Some drivers do fine. I would do fine. But if I decide to take a week off, my payments shouldnt suddenly snowball and then I have to work extra hard just to dig my way out of a hole...just for take a week off at the house.
Often times, I will tell owner op wannabes not to buy fleet trucks. They took my truck with a 455 Cummins and turned it down to 350HP. They bought the truck with a 13 and converted it to a 9. They want me to take a detuned truck and grab a 14 ft wide, 100000lb load and take it into northern Canada. They'd run their trucks first through the company drivers, and then through their lease program, and then tune them back up to 455 and a 13 and sell them to the general public.
Do not buy a fleet truck. Odds are pretty good, its lived a terrible life.SavageMuffin, cke, SoDel and 8 others Thank this. -

Good stuff here. I may not be smart but I'm smart enough to see how dumb it would be to lease. Pay money for a POS ex-fleet truck, pay maintenance, fuel, etc but still get treated like a company stooge. No thank you.

The other thing stopping me right now is family. With two daughters ages 10 and 7, now isn't the time to take a risk like that. I worked as a mechanic for ten years, but driving truck was a part of what I did. I started driving full time when we found out my wife was pregnant with the little one. Talk about an adjustment! Had a two year old, a pregnant wife, and I decide to start driving regional, being gone six days at a time. Almost ended up divorced with a custody agreement. Thats when I got a little wiser and found a local gig. Best thing I've done so far.
I actually almost pulled the trigger and bought a truck just before my oldest came along. This was in '06. Friend of mine had a 95 Pete 378, nothing too fancy, just a basic work truck. He pulled containers with it. Had the engine rebuilt in '05, it might have had 100,000 since the rebuild. I could have bought it for $7500, and had it leased on at the rail yard the next day. But the wife talked me out of it. I often wonder where I'd be at today if I had bought it. My buddy that had it bought a new W900, beautiful truck. Went to Mercer in 08, and nearly lost everything. Ended up divorced, paying 1500 a month in child support and alimony. I wasn't about to go down that roadQuietStorm, BigBob410, TripleSix and 3 others Thank this.
