Looking at getting some flat top or miter cut stacks. Have never had them before mine are turnouts. How big of a mess do they make when it rains? I assume it blows a black sooty mess all over the truck after a rain?

Best thing you can do with flat cuts is put rain caps on, of course the clacking of them at an idle always drove me nuts. I've also attached a coffee can to a stick and hung them on the stacks when I've parked don't worry if you forget them on startup they'll blow off.
dca Thanks this. -

My dad had miter cut stacks on his '07 T800. The ISX would shoot out some soot but I don't recall it being all that bad.

I've had that greasy soot land on my windshield when the trucks pass me. it's wonderful when your windshield wipers are in motion..

Depends on the engine and the truck. Some seem worse than others. I like miter cuts myself. My old b model cat in a t600 was bad for it. I put softer plastic jugs on it so when i would forget to remove them they wouldnt hurt the paint if they landed on the truck. My e model cat in a 379 pete hardly ever does it. Not worth worrying about imo get the stacks you like appearance wise. Btw i had turnouts for a year or so and they would throw soot once in a blue moon too.

I've got mitre cut stacks on my W9 with an N14. If I don't cover the stacks it makes a big mess. Not good when you're parked next to other guys and fire up in the morning.
I have rubber buckets. If they blow off they won't scratch anything on their way down.
