Well, it's been a bit since I've posted, so wanted to catch you up on what's been going on.
Took that last test at DMV and got my permit.
Arrived at Corsicana last Sunday. The first 2 days of class we just filled out paperwork, watched videos, etc.
Day 3 (Wednesday), we finally got to get in the trucks. We began our straight-line backing. They pretty much said, "here's the key, jump in and back it up."
Everyone did well. I was very nervous and learned quickly not to ride the clutch.....(my leg was shaking terribly).
The next day we continued to practice and then we were evaluated. From there we were shown how to do a blind side parallel and given the keys to practice.
About half the class did very well, the rest of us struggled. I have to say it is more difficult than I had anticipated, but I'm not giving up!
Those that got it down, were evaluated and moved onto other backing maneuvers.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday we continued to practice.
Sunday was classroom, where we were tested on Hours of Service, Trip Planning, etc.
That catches us up to today. I am still struggling with the parallel parking. I've been told that I am thinking about it too much. I am getting very frustrated, but I know I will get it.
I am really enjoying the training. I just need to get this parallel parking down so I can move on
Thanks for reading.........
Debpattyj Thanks this. -
I am in the same boat Texas... I just started today. The dog wasn't that bad since it was only a three hour trip. I didn't want to drive and then leave my vehicle at the terminal while I was gone. I ave an advantage since my sister is in Memphis and I can get around if I need it. Day 1 was a lot of hurry up and wait. For those in the military you understand exactly what I mean. It wasnt that bad. A lot of people had issues with not having the DOT physical correct or had forgot the long form section back at home and had to wait on getting it faxed in to the med team. One of the guys had to get something cleared medically through the VA. Surprisingly he had the paperwork back in an our after he called the VA to raise hell. For me. I had everything set before I came so it was a very boring day. I am rooming with a guy who dorve for swift for 5 years and now has to go back through since it has been more than 5 years since her drove. (I am getting all the pointer I can from him.
After my drug test it was a lot of policy and procedures for the remainder of the course. It was only day one. Tomorrow we go over the rest of the paperwork and wednesday we start on the range.
I will post again on Saturday since that is my day off. For anyone coming to memphis. The hotel has moved and there is not much within walking distance at all. The rooms are ok. There is not a microwave or fridge in the rooms since they are still on order and waiting to arrive. Until next post everyone..
Skully
