my dry van avgs 1.65 off load boards and i get 100% of it.
I really dont think your going to find anyone at 1.25 to the truck. I think you need to get your brokers lic first, get some direct customer second, then get your O/O's fleet to haul at 2.00.

He stated he wants to avg $1.65 per mile. Unless you have ZERO capitol equipment expense, you can't operate that cheap.

It would help you if you could work in this industry for a while before taking this step. In fact, it would help if you could actually drive a truck and find your own loads before you try to lease on owner operators. If you don't want to do that, you may want to hire someone to run the business for you until you get up to speed. It isn't rocket science, but many people lose their shirts very quickly in this business. We see many come into this industry with little or no experience and limited capital only to fade away in a very short time. I am not trying to be negative or discourage you from doing this, but you need to take deep breath, take a few steps back and think about what you are getting into with this business. It is a little different than most other industries. The basics of any business is the same. However, trucking is probably the most regulated industry in this country. In order to make money, you will need to find shippers or brokers who have good rates and pay in a timely manner. Most owner operators need to make at least $1.65-2.00/mile to the truck to make money. It will be difficult for you to get those rates when you are looking at taking 25% off the top. If you want to find the better rates, you will need to find some of your own shippers. There are some decent paying loads on the loadboards, but your best rates will usually come from direct shippers. I have gotten good rates from loadboards, but I don't have to discount the rate by 25%.
