When I know I am getting close I just let it coast back while it slows, if I need to nudge the gas I do and easily bump the dock. When it is a bad bump I will let it roll forward then coast back into it again.

    My 680 has granny mode.
If you feather the pedal gently, the truck creeps perfectly..forward or reverse.

You dont have to be in an auto to be stress free driving in traffic. I will be the only one moving and everyone around me are doing the stop and go boogie. Its so funny to watch. For those who dont know how, The trick to it is space. Thats all. Its like driving a lazy mans auto trans. Many people dont know you can just release the clutch and the truck will go by itself without touching the go pedal.

I went straight to a company that had autos only. So it did put me at a disadvantage and would recomend standard shifts for learning.

One bonus was being able to really learn more about manuevering the truck without having to worry about shifting.

I think that can be a huge bonus with all the drivers a lot of these companies try to churn out and no doubt has a huge part in many going auto.

Again, I would recomend going with standard shift also but it wasnt the biggest deal when I got back to a standard from the auto.

So...are you convinced that automatics make for a lesser truck? If so....you are mistaken. Automatics are getting better and better.

As far as wanting to be with a stick....that's cool, but don't sell yourself on thinking automatics are not real trucks.

My favorite transmission used to be the 13 speed, but if I bought a truck today, it would be a auto.

Thing to do is go to motor carriers website and see what kind of transmission they have or ask the recruiter.Sure theres companies with automatics but there's many companies with a straight 10 and super 10 also.I think its great you wanna learn a manual because later on down the road you may wanna go local and many of those companies have the stick shift.Don't consider Western until you look at the many other starter companies..

How am I mistaken? I drove one for a month and hated it. I'm not here to argue and defend my opinion that's not the point of this thread. If driving an automatic truck will make you happy go drive an automatic truck I don't care.
