Hi All,
I have been looking at a new career in the trucking field, I figured that this was the best place to ask my questions since the recruiters are only there to get you aboard their company. I am 43 and married, this last year I had complete knee surgery, so it doesn't allow me to kneel an that knee, is this a problem getting into Schneider? This is the only thing I can not do, I can do everything else their driver assessment calls for. I checked out many companies and Schneider seems to offer the best training. Can anyone tell me about the living conditions while training, what to expect once I pass my CDL training, home time, 1st year money, do they offer uniforms if you are a company driver, since I was an outside sales man my whole life, what is it like driving... Also can anyone tell me what the 2 weeks with the trainer is like on the road. And once you pass everything, the truck you receive is it a piece of junk or do they really take care of them. Thank you so much.

Be advised Schneider has turned their trucks back to 60 miles an hour . That means you give up over 100 miles a day over what you could drive with a 70 m.p.h. truck . A 70 m.p.h. truck can go 650 miles in 10 hours . (FMCSA is suspicious of trucks averaging more than 5 m.p.h.under the speed limit . )
In 10 hours driving with a 60 m.p.h. truck you can't get more than 550 miles .NukedNative and Baack Thank this. -
which knee = the clutch is on the left and how about having you knee in the same position for 6-11 hrs. If you need to get under the trailer to look you kneel or getting into a trailer.
You may want to goto an automatic and loads that are all drop and hook and no touch. Takes about a year to make fair money -
I saw on another thread that Schneider has a freeze on hiring right now. Don't remember which thread it was though.
Going with an automatic might be a very good idea since you have had knee surgery. You may even want to look at finding a DOT approved doctor and discussing the knee thing with them. There is a physical you have to pass. If you go to a doctor that is DOT approved, you'll know before you even look further if the knee will prevent you from getting into driving. -
I just received this reply to my application. Is this a polite way of saying 'forget it" or are they really waiting for an opening in my area? I only have four months experience and was fired from my last job so I am frankly skeptical when I receive anything optimistic. Any thoughts or opinions (or even facts)?? Here is the email:
"Thank you for your interest in a driving position with Schneider National.
We have reviewed your application and compared your qualifications to our needs for our open driving positions.
At this time, we do not have a driving opportunity available for you. We will contact you if a driving opportunity becomes available in the near future.
Again, thank you for considering Schneider National.
Sincerely,

No offense, but basically that was their blow off letter.
Schneider froze the hiring for pretty much all catagories. The only way a person gets hired here lately is with a spotless driving record and at least 2-3 years experience. They even froze transfers for the I/C guys that are on the mileage program and want to switch to the Choice program. Times are tough and the bigger carriers are finally seeing that hiring inexperienced drivers doesn't make for a better profit margin. -
