What do you mean by using a broker or self dispatch? Are you talking about getting a dispatch service and thinking they do not use brokers? Power only can pay if you understand the game. I never did it but seen some people do good at it as well. I would have rather leased onto a company that has freight and trailers instead of doing power only on own authority.

I am sure that dispatching services use brokers. I also think that is probably one reason so many loads get double booked.

What I am trying to ask is whether it is worth it to be attached to a broker/dispatch service or to use the boards and broker our own loads?

If going your own authority you should do your own stuff. Sign up for the brokers and try and find a few that you can work with on a regular bases. Do not sign up with some dispatch company as they will make the connections and also take money from you that this market cannot handle especially on the spot market.
