    I am amazed at these threads when they pop up.

    How many newbies are mechanically inclined enough to do something like knowing how to fix a wiring problem with a multiplexed electrical system?

    I wouldn't allow a driver to mess with a truck unless they are mechanics too.

    Sorry guys I just cut and pasted from other posts what I think any driver needs on the road. I am typing with one hand today thanks to a cart at sams club so the quote thing is hard to do sometimes.

    I assume the OP is going to be a company driver, not an owner so I would recommend;

    personal protection gear (reflective clothing, safety glasses, a couple pairs of good gloves and a few pairs of gloves you won't miss, good pair of boots with care products and a good pair of shoes)

    items which will make life easier (razor knife/box cutter, duct tape, electrical tape - both the cheap and good stuff),

    "office supplies" (A few pens, a mechanical pencil, dry erase markers (trip planning in your atlas), roll of tape, mini stapler with staples, small pair of scissors, high lighter, envelopes, post it notes, ream of paper (tape your receipts to it for travel expense reimbursement) and a note book to keep notes in)

    Safety stuff like a good first aid kit that isn't a little auto kit you get for $10. Get a good one, go through it as soon as you get it. Check everything, date everything with the day you get it that is a liquid, gel or paste and buy new stuff when they come close to the expiration date - don't forget to put the date you got the replacement item on the actual item. The reason for this is to keep track of what you have and when things get hot from sitting, you can dump it and put new stuff in. Nothing worst than to get an infection on a cut after you put a antibacterial cream on it which is bad form cooking in a cab in texas heat.

    Tools??

    Well one multi-screwdriver thing, a couple pair of vice grips and a hammer. nice hammer, not a framer's hammer but something you can hit something with.

    As for truck specific supplies, glad hand seals, fuses (which should already be in the truck), a few common light bulbs but nothing more.

    OH and two cans of WD-40.

    Some big fat candles , matches and a striker like you use on OXY / ACET torch , tin can . Candle in a tin can will help keep the inside of your truck reasonably warm if your stuck and low of fuel and cannot run the engine a lot for heat, striker works when you run out of matches

    i'd leave the brake diaphragm out unless you really know what you are doing .... it can be very dangerous trying to change it... most places just change out the whole unit... for owner operators i would add an air governor, and an alternator to the list, as well as enough fittings to bypass the air dryer...

    That's what Timothy & Christopher wished they had yesterday when the police busted them in the Werner truck in Georgia. The greatest Werner driver. Of. All. Time.

    In Georgia, a brother and sister were arrested in a church parking lot. Siblings arrested for incest in Effingham County church parking lot
