How's it going out there?
I'm going back to something I did briefly before (about 17 years ago) for about a year driving truck, but have to start from square one all over again. My past driving went to the side for a good paying job, a 80k education and then to a career that has dissolved form my area and dropped to entry level jobs. So starting next week I'll be going to CDL school in the Albany, NY area and looking to see all of the changes that have happened over the years. So a question to those out there roaming the nation in your trucks, what has been the biggest change to the industry?
A second question and its a repeat from a lot of others is about companies. I have offers from all the mega guys but is there any companies in the real Upstate area of NY say around Warren / Essex county area?
Any feedback is great and i'm sure more questions will come.
Thanks drive safe, keep rubber down
Starting all over again

Here's some long haul names:
Contract Freighters Inc. - (www.cfidrive) and will reimburse cdl school tuition to you.
Schuster - nations largest ice cream hauler; Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
NFI Industries - local/regional/long haul
Calex Logistics - California runs

Trekker Logistics - dry van/reefers/flatbed choices
Wadhams Enterprises Inc.
Magnum Ltd.
Freymiller
Eastern Freightways
Britton Transport

Chinatown thanks for the responses, the info and the welcome. Ya I am up in the boondocks you might say. I'll take a look into some of the companies you have listed a couple I know of and a few I don't. I did get a call from Melton but not sure I want to do flatbedding.
Chinatown Thanks this. -

Live in the boondocks? Do you get mail delivered to your home. DHS is new since then and require proof of a physical address. No P.O. Box or rural route address. I think that If you have a rural route address you can provide a properly certified government-issued document showing your name, and a description of the residence’s location. Not sure if that (RRA) applies to CDL though.

Sorry guys been away for the weekend with the wifey. I appreciate all of the feedback and help.
tscottme: you are right about the GPS. I was watching a video and was like they are allowed to use GPS now. Back when I first got drove if caught using a GPS you where in the ####, but back then no GPS was programmed for truck routes.
kmac: The hour thing with clock and 34hr reset and all that seems like a pain and will take getting use to. It might be a blessing that I don't have to adjust to it has if I have been driving for years and then in comes a rule changed on driving hours.
woodchuck88: I have applied to wadhams (RIST), just waiting to hear from them. NFI has been mentioned by a couple of guys and they are hiring in my area so that will be a phone call Monday morning to see if it makes my list of companies that will hire me.
csdixon: Not really that far north to be boondocks I do have a regular postal address and live on paved road. I do appreciate the help though if I was in the hill around here I would need your advice.CSDixon Thanks this.
