I think Indy barn is a great place to work. I come in do my job and be safe while doing it, and go home. Ask me about anything there, I can give you my opinion. I can't say anthing from the company's point of view, but I can tell you that I have been extremely pleased with the company, but I am a WORKER, not a complainer. If you work and are safe you will fit in fine, if you are a slacker you may skate for a while but you won't be happy.

I met the Plainfield personnel supervior "Duke" today at a career fair in Indy and applied with Con-Way .
He said that even though I've completed school and have a class A , I'd still need to go through the paid 4 week program to learn the Con-Way , way of driving .
Any idea of what to expect from this program if I get hired ? -
I'm pretty sure that program focuses on people who graduated from schools, and teaches them how to hook and operate doubles (as well as the way conway does things). You'll probably see time in the city and line haul.

So I've got day one of the 4 week program under my belt now .
Not bad so far , the people seem friendly and focused on safety which is a big change from the dock at OD . That place is a friggin mad house with the inmates running the asylum .
A lot of info thrown in but I'll get it down in short order and hopefully will get a "decent" job / shift / bid however it'll work out .
I'll try to keep this thread updated for any other new guys that are thinking about Con-Way Indy / XIN .The Specialist and gb2nyc Thank this. -
Day two down.
Intro into dock ops and fork lift skills , how to load freight , how to use the hand held , Haz-Mat categories / placards / paperwork procedures , videos and tests .
A LOT OF INFO coming at you so you have to keep your thinking hat on .
Ten hour days but that's no big deal , your getting paid for everything and your not rushed (so far) but I haven't seen the FAC at night yet .
The thing that strikes me as "weird" is that everyone is kinda laid back for an LTL .
At some places the drivers or dock guys will get annoyed at you for taking too long or being in the way and will rush by you . I don't see that kinda crap here (yet) here because safety seems to be a really big deal around here .
Although they will swipe your lift if you don't mark it somehow but that's anywhere you go .
So far for being a brand new driver this place seems like it's gonna be a good decision if you don't want to go OTR .
