There must be something to that idea , we've had more than a few guys jump ship to work for OD around here just in the last few months .
Turnover ? The guys "up front" make it sound like we don't have a turn over rate .
Then you start working the dock and talking to other folks and learn about guys getting fired for idle times or pointing themselves out for being written up over dumb things like bumping into the plastic trash barrels while on a lift .
starting at conway any advise (indy)

Conway Freight the worst company to work for, at least in the Bakersfield,CA terminal no over time your lucky to get your 40 hours per week, really poor equipment, management from that terminal its really the worst of all their on you all the time,I was told by a driver he got wrote up for waiting 1 minute to punch out. Another driver is in the middle of nowhere making a p/u he got wrote up for not taking his lunch their where theirs no restaurants theirs nothing, he got a letter for driving couple miles to the nearest restaurants to get his lunch.I don't recommend anyone to apply for this terminal, you never be conferrable working their. If you talk to any driver from that terminal they would say the same.

For example , yard flow / lay out . I've been to 5 terminals now and every one of them are different . Clockwise , counter clockwise , abc's , numbers , color codes , blue 5 , D yellow 9 , are you friggin serious ?
As a new guy, I always have to ask where the empties go or where the closed loads or dollies are , where to park , what section of their dock our guys work ?
Then get a call and have to listen to dispatch whine about what took so long or where I'm at .
Gee IDK , you prick maybe it has something to do with it being night , 37 degrees out / raining and I'm trying to find and connect my loads in a place I've never been before . Or maybe it's that half the trip is through construction zones .
All the while I'm trying to be the safe / professional driver and not kill myself or others while learning to deal with the wind , rain , snow and everything else that comes with this profession .
When you see me walk through the door I'm back , till then stop calling . I promise I don't care if "Joe" can make the trip an hour shorter than I can . -
I don't doubt it , I got wrote up for taking a 26 minute lunch here . They tell you not to be 1 minute late for work but if you take a 33 minute lunch it's ok .
I've heard from other drivers that guys have been fired for waiting a minute or two to punch their line haul sheets to make it easier for them to add .
Or guys being fired because they couldn't pass the Smith Two obstacle coarse when the instructors can't even pass it . -
I have to pull over and take a nap in the mornings. I dont answer my phone when the inbound FOS calls. Ill get there soon, so leave me alone! And con-way just tries to cover their ### with the lunch thing..Every region is different ..You can get written up or fired for taking an extra minute of lunch.
They can fire you for waiting that extra minute to punch...falls under stealing company time.
Have you ever been on the portal and read the employee handbook?
This place is "at will" so they can fire you for whatever reason they feel like that day. Me and another guy came in one morning and we were joking around while trying to self arrive and he dropped the f bomb..the inbound supervisor heard him and had him written up...this place is ridiculous..I could go on and on about this place.
Dont hold your breath for a bid, it means nothing unless there is an available spot for you..Simply means you wull get your last choice if enough people move from the extraboard to regular board by way of firings. No one below you is your friend..They all want you to quit or get fired so they can move up that extra spot..thats what this seniority crap does. -
I'm thinking about them too! 5.56,are you military!? I am,and I was thinking about applying to Con-way too! Please keep me posted, because I have about a year to go before I get out!

Pass this place up man , unless you feel like going through basic all over again with the added twist of never knowing when you'll be working .
I think , they think they pay you well enough that they can treat you like a ##### . "Be here when we need you and stay by the phone when we don't" .
Until you get a bid , don't make any plans for the foreseeable future cause nobody knows when you'll get a bid or consistent start time .The Specialist Thanks this. -
