Thank you man I appreciate it.
And always thank you for the tips. I will surely contact the flatbed DM when I get some months into the company.
Be safe.

Just a quick update:
Started the driving school this Monday. The school just moved to that location(its a "big" name school with multiple schools in the Midwest). I am the only student (absolutely amazing) and my trainer has 35 years experience, its a cool dude ex OP, sold his company with 10 units to a bigger fish and now trains as he says"to help people out and to play with my toys"(his 15 bikes).
Got my dot physical card (2 years) at the local hospital.
Today (day number 3 since I started school) I did my written test for my permit (General, Air brakes and Combination) aced all 3 at first try.
Tomorrow starts the real cool stuff with the training. Very excited.
Things looks good so far.
Starting company for CDL driver aspirant.

@Paul T800 are you actually in private cdl school or company sponsored through swift?
Paul T800 Thanks this. -
My first plan was to go to a school myself, I could afford it to pay it. That was my plan, but if you have read my previous posts I am an unusual case (I guess?), because of my lack of work experience in US I have really few choices at the moment unfortunately.
So..I was like "well...I don't have many choices at the moment, swift is willing to get me and sponsor for the school, so why not" Plus the starting pay doesn't sound horrible as a rookie.
My trainer already told me to hang tight for 6 months and then a lot of doors should start to open. But I will consider to stay the entire year with Swift if I am happy with them and they make me happy, stay even further with them.
We'll see..all I can say is that I am very excited so far for everything. Loving what I am learning and can't wait to start on the road.FerrissWheel and Gunner75 Thank this. -
I did read your thread. I commend you on not willing to just lay down. Swift isn't great, but I believe most of their problems come from a lot of the lack of training that their mentors provide. I know someone suggested maverick, and they are a really good starter company with a yard up that way. Once you get your contract requirement fulfilled with swift, you could always go over to maverick. Their flatbed side is top notch for new guys, and where you are, they just recently bought a boat hauling company last fall, and their yard is just north of detroit. They require 6months flatbed experience before you can go over there, but of the few drivers I spoke with about that side, they are all extremely happy.

Oh and like @Chinatown said, I've been to Portsmouth aswell. I was in the navy when my ship had anchored in the bay. There was a news report about us how my ship and drank every bit of booze in Portsmouth over a weekend
