Is .29 CPM a decent start pay? From what im told, .29 to start, .30 after 6mo, and .32 after first year. Is this too low?

Too low?? Well, I will say that I was making 30 cpm back in the 70s, but the average driver has seen his salary almost at a standstill for over 30 years. As it stands right now, you better take it and be thankful that you are finding a job. Happiness and satisfaction are much more important than money and that is why I find myself running for 30 cpm today. I retired from a major ltl carrier, but the job that I now find myself in gives me more happiness and satisfaction than all those years with the major ltl carrier.
Everyone doesn't drive a black Ford, because God made us all different. If you think that the job that you are looking at might be your "cup of tea", then by all means, jump on it.EmersonSC Thanks this. -
Thank you very much for the input.
I do feel that way for sure. A job is a job at this point. -
.
It's too low. But, truckers have always had to deal with low wages.
I'm like the other poster, working for peanuts, again.
As long as you can pay your bills, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. The pay is considered acceptable to me.EmersonSC Thanks this. -

That was a one week check, running LTL.
You'll have to ask someone else how the miles are now. I left in December.
I'm working for another outfit...weekends home. At .31 a mile base, with performance bonuses.
In other words...I'm making .31 a mile every week LOL Cause I don't want all the miles
Soon2btrucking might be able to give you a more accurate picture at this time. -
What was your opinion of them while you were working for them? Did you leave for bad reasons, or just wanted a job with more home time?
-
I left for reasons of my own. I was LTL, and I got put out to OTR. If I had wanted OTR, I would have hired in as OTR -
Hi EmersonSC,
I too live in SE MI (St Clair Shores) and I am scheduled for the March 30 orientation class in Missoula. I talked with a WS driver that graduated from the same driver training school and he is, so far, satisfied with the company. He had been with them for some time then took 8 months away to help the school set up and market some new programs. He is now back with WS.
Where are you in the process? Do you know when and where you plan to go for orientation? I am thinking about renting a car for the trip west on 3/28. I would entertain sharing expenses if you are in the same class! Otherwise I may just fly even if its more than the bus fare. I will consider 48 hrs in a car but not on a bus. :smt015Let me know.

Gotcha. Well im glad to hear these good things. I'm so anxious to get started. I worry im going to not get hired though. I've heard their 10-orientation can be tough. I've always driven as part of my job, whether it be a E-350 van, or a f-450 dump truck. Also used to haul a dodge ram 2500 with a 6 place enclosed snowmobile trailer (we used it to haul crates of quads and mopeds) so i have a slight idea. just nervous investing the money i am and then not getting a job
