Next week is coming soon. For a while it seemed like it would never get here, but now that the date is close it seems I don't have enough time to get the little things around the house done before school starts.

and it will go faster than you realize....and the days will be long....and yard days will be hot...that asphalt on the range is cooking lol.....but it's a good primer for the even longer days you'll spend when you get out here.....

good luck to all of you....i'll try to get by there in the truck at some point during the class.....

Epes out of greensboro....#### good company....can't say enough about them....smaller company=better experience.....don't see myself going aywhere else unless some dream job falls out of the sky into my lap....they recruit from there and like the students from there...the high quality instruction and time in the seat was a big payoff at orientation and during the time with my trainer

He's has a very vaild point,, DON'T go with any of those mega bottom feeder companies.
Give EPES out of Greensboro a call,, they DON'T lie to you. They don't use and abuse you.
They do offer a training program for fresh graduates, where as the trainer doesn't drive, nor does he get paid YOUR miles ( you do). You'll make GOOD money, have the respect from dispatchers you deserve, good well maintained equipment, AND you'll be home EVERY week for your restart. There are MANY advantages to going to EPES.
Yea, I worked for them till I became an O/O, they have safety meeting once a year,, but man,, it's not a meeting at all,, it's a dinner, plus you could win prizes,, Like I did,, ( a DBL door fridge) and was only there 1.5 months at the time.

    First Day:
The first half was really just Hi, Hello and going over school do's & don't.
We were introduced to all the instructors.
At lunch I took a ride over to the "Yard" where the driving is done, it was the next street down about 1/8 mile or so from the school.
This program goes well beyond what NC DMV require and expect. Point like this, the alley backing and straight that NC requires in done in a 12' lane, this school does it in a 9' wide lane.
After lunch we got into some of what the program expects and what is passing and what is not. It seems strict or a high standard in what they expect, but they also seem to give you every chance over the 8 weeks 380hr course to get it.
Tomorrow we hit the yard at 7:30am and get started in trucks, I can't wait.

Yeah the program is WAY more in depth and you'll get much more than what is required by the state. When you actually do the backing part for the actual testing for the license, you'll be dumbfounded how little the state requires after the hoops they have you jump through for what the school requires to pass the course. It will show when you road test for your job as well. Of 5 students at my orientation, I was the only one that made it past the first day/road test. The lack of training in these other "schools" in our area was very apparent.

    2nd Day:
We went out to the "Yard" or where the trucks were. They broke us up into 4 person groups. Had different stations set-up 1 was Pre-Trip, 1 was Coupling, 1 was Straight Backing, 1 was a Forward where you made several tight turns then ran down a 9' wide alley then had to make a turn and pull straight and stop with your front bumper within 6" of a line. Then 1 was going for a ride where we could see how a professional driver could navigate in city streets and turns.

My first turn in the foward exercise I ran over a baby, not really thats what my group called a tire that when you made a 90 degree turn, you had to get your back trailer tire within 6-8" of the tire without hitting it, I ran it over, ALL OVER. The second try I did much better.
All-in-All a very good day. Tomorrow is Friday class day, but next week we get to drive on the real road.
