WIA, Voc Rehab, Unemployment, and if you go to your community college you can get student loans or a private loan!

Regarding the financing thing.... I checked with Rogue Community College and they referred me to Oregon Job Source... Problem is Oregon Job Source has run out of money. I have researched grants and didn't find anything so I ended up going with a student loan through IITR. They usually limit one student loan per class. While the terms are not as attractive as some, it is a way to get the training. Rogue Community College was no help at all... There are a couple of places on the web that offer private loans, however, it was all a little too fuzzy for me to be comfortable with. While I could have gone to Swift or England or some other company training, I have been much happier with IITR and am very glad I didn't go the other route. Hope this helps!

Three weeks complete at IITR in Central Point Oregon. We have been on the highway all week with a great night drive to Klamath Falls and back. Man have I learned a lot! Our class is outstanding with everyone helping one another and working through pre-trips, backing manuvers, coupling / uncoupling. The instructors have been extremely patient and supportive. This week begins skills testing before thrid party examiner comes next weekend. I still have a lot to learn, but I feel pretty good about the foundations I have learned. Still a great experience with zero regrets!

I am glad you are having good luck at IITR. I highly recommend Elite. The top instructor was a trainer with Schneider, extremely knowledgeable and patient. Great staff.

    Hey BriFar,
Nice post. I will be starting there soon as well. Seems like a better choice than RCC. About how many people were in your class? Did you get a lot of practice backing?

Hi PineTree! I agree with you on the RCC thing. When I talked to them, they didn't even know if they were going to have a class... Humm... We have been backing a lot. More than the minimum that the DMV requires. You should be learning, blind side 45, sight side 45, straight line backing, 90 degree alley dock backing. We have had tons of practice. A lot of it under the direction of the instructor but then they let you go at it with minimal coaching so you can work out the fundamentals. We had our IITR skills exams this week. Have my third party test this weekend. It has been a great experience. My class had 5 people. We worked together extremely well. Found some friends for life.

    TheOldPineTree Thanks this.

    Hey BriFar,
Thanks for the info and the updates. I am eagerly anticipating my start date on the 5th. I have been studying that CDL manual up and down.
What carrier have you decided to work for?

    Hey PineTree!
I am trying to get on with GTi. Rick - the recuiter - was at school last week. I put in an ap and got contacted for some more information. I was self-employed for a while so I had to provide financials to prove the self-employment time. Things are progressing. As far as IITR goes, facility is great, staff is awesome. Get ready to be fed with a firehose though lol! The first week is intense but they give you all the tools you need. Enjoy the experience and graduation day will be there for you before you know it!
