I think that YOU NEED to re-read what YOU SAID! YOU SAID THAT YOU GET BORED, doing the same task!
In trucking you WILL BE DOING much the same task, like driving! And IF YOU GET BORED driving on some of the highways that never seem to end, how will YOU DEAL WITH IT? YOU CANNOT run across the PA Pike and NOT get bored! YOU MUST STAY ALERT for any and all things!.
so yeah, you cannot drive a truck!
Frankly, you sound like the type that needs what he wants to hear, and nothing else! But that's not how I roll, I tell it like it is!
starting in a few days, afraid I'll be bored too soon

There's a big difference between mindless throwing something in a scanner and the. dragging it to a file.
And driving a 80,000 lb heavy machinery which requires me to be alert and pro/reactive .
Clearly I should just keep my mouth shut because y'all be taking what I say out of context -
Well I guess you were not done posting, and we cannot take things out of context, that you plainly stated! So now, I will "sit back" for a while and read what some of the others say.
I'd wish you well, but I already know, you'll be out of trucking in under a year. Heck, you may get bored in school, in the classroom, then in the field, then what?
On the side, for a while, BYEEE! -

North we're not trying to run you off, we all just want you as prepared as possible. We've had things happen out there and some of us have almost killed people. Hell if i hadnt been looking for something to pop around a line of parked cars on the curb i'd have hit and killed a three year old boy. That's all I'm trying to say. Come on out, give her a go. I wish you the best of luck. And, from someone who DOES understand your question, I had the same worry when I started driving three years ago. You'll do fine.

Here's the problem most of us are seeing, well I am anyway. Your posting came across as you'll be bore because you've master the job and it doesn't bring any excitement any more. If so I can't really blame you because my blame will always be on the school. Their job is to get you a CDL and as fast as possible or as cheap as possible. They take a extra large amount of cash and only teach you how to get your license.
Before I retired I have been driving for over 20 years and not one day did I get bored. I know that is me but it's also the way you look at the job. When you shut down for a night get out the CFR 49 Transportation book and see what hazmat has to offer. Then go on to the FMCSR's requirements to see if you are knowledgeable on all those requirements. I ask because if you lack in any subject then how in the world can you get bored? You leaving yourself liable for not following all the rules and regulations and when you're in court fighting for your freedom (on some cases) after a bad accident has happened then you're much tougher than anyone I've ever run across. Or you just have your head buried in the sand.
Sure you don't ever see this kind of thing happening but it can. Go over hours and fall asleep and run some family over. Now I'm not saying you'll ever do anything like this but it happens and you will be fighting for your freedom. Even if it's no fault of yours you'll still be fighting to prove to the laymen your were absolutely legal and there was nothing you might have skipped to cause any mishaps. You have to admit this job is the worse for having rules and laws hanging over your head.
Those lawyers that are tearing you apart want you and your deep pockets company to pay. After all, that's how he gets paid. You'll also see how fast your company will not know you and leave you out in the cold. My point here is even after 20 years of driving going to places over and over again I never stopped learning. I kept the belief that I could learn something new everyday and I did my best to do the day better than the one before. I hope I help here. There was no intention to question your driving skills. Just wanted to show another side you may not be aware of. Good luck.G.Anthony, Tonythetruckerdude and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Oh boy! If the OP is already having doubts and still in CDL school and bored to death,WE DO NOT NEED HIM ON THE ROAD!
Sorry but that is my opinion!
We have too many of these drivers now running around playing on phones, laptops mounted to the dash,etc,etc...
Personally I don't care to share the road with them.
Trucking is SERIOUS business....
Sometimes I cringe just passing a driver like that.
You get up next to them and they are so bored driving they have the phone in hand, foot on the dash and never looked in the mirror once as I came around.
Sorry to be blunt but death can happen in a blink of the eye.Moon_beam, G.Anthony and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -

The first year you won't get bored, you'll be too busy learning on the road and learning your companies policies.Once you get the exp and know the roads without having to glance at the Atlas everytime you stop not worrying about every little thing then yes trucking can get boring. Its strickly routine day in day out..You get up do your pretrip get rollen, deliver unload then do it all over again. After so long with the industry you seen one company you seen them all. You're hired to drive trk and deliver freight and that is it.If you feel this type of job will be boring for you in time then I suggest finding different career path.
G.Anthony Thanks this. -
Different people get something different out of being around trucks. My take on it...it's a blast compared to being in an office. My last job...I worked in an office from 8am-5pm. I had my own office. I played with the same spreadsheets, presentations, etc. for 5+ years. It was mind numbingly boring.
I currently work 130am to 930am. I work outside when it's x < 20*...rain, snow, etc. Think you'll get tired or bored with cranking the landing gear up and down on trailers? Well then...try doing it when there's inches of ice/slush caked up and you have to kick the #### out of everything just to locate the handle, lol.
