Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this but I didn't want to make a new topic - I am starting school this week, my class has a 13-speed and I think an 18-speed as well, both manuals.

I have never driven stick before, I'm a bit nervous, is it easy to learn in a truck? My instructors have said that the only thing that driving a truck has in common with driving a car (any car) is the steering wheel, so that anything we think we might know about driving a truck can't really be used, we shouldn't be making any assumptions. Will I be OK learning in the truck or should I scramble to find someone who will teach me stick in their car?

If your instructor states the only thing in common is the steering wheel, what do you think?

As long as you get good seat time learning a 10, 13, or 18 speed should be no problem for anyone that has a good instructor and a bit of brain power. Check YouTube if you need further assistance. Bunch of helpful folks out there showing you different ways to do it.

It's really not that hard, at all. Most guys I know never drove a stick until they got into their company. Their all fine years later. A stick in a truck really doesn't have too much in common with a stick in a car.
