You're going to get tied up either way with no experience. Unless you already have a company lined up that would hire you and not make you sign a year of your life away, I would not pay out of pocket for CDL school. Wherever you go, you are still going to need training and they will get something out of it. All CDL school does is teach you how to pre trip and back and not run over curbs. It doesn't teach you how to be a truck driver. You'll still be double bunked up with a trainer for a few weeks and learn the real stuff. I've known a guy at the company I started at that came from another place with 3 months experience and they still made him retrain and sign a 1 year contract.
Unless you can find a company that doesn't care about training and ensuring your safety on the road, and you actually want to go through with that, then I wouldn't waste any money.
Pick a mega with a yard closest to you. They're all the same so don't even think about job hopping and starting all over because the dispatcher hurt your feelings or you have to go to the northeast. Put your year in and move on.Tmocha29 and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

Looking at your name I remember now something.
My first solo load after training was a Montreal-NY City
furniture load done with a double stacked 48 footer dry van.
Double stacked using plywood and logistic bars.
18 stops in those 5 boroughs. Stores, hotels and private businesses.
I did in 3 days due to scheduling delivery conflicts.
And, the first stop was in Chinatown.
July 2001. Hottest and most humid summer in a trailer.
The pay was amazing. I kept doing this and other places in USA
until July 2003.
Because nobody wanted to touch NY City with 100 miles pole.
Fun memories. They are fun when you survive to had any memories at all.
Chinatown.
Where sidewalks were full of tables and pedestrians were walking in the street.Chinatown Thanks this.
