    No.
Attend a cdl school and you'll have more choices of trucking companies to choose from.

Had not thought of looking north to Johnson County. Will definitely take a look. Thank you.

I assume you mean that I should attend a private school vs company school?

Some questions and concerns. The primary concern is cost and compensation. If I attended a private school, I would have to write a check for tuition and cover the costs for housing and meals while in school vs a company school that covers this and sometimes even a small paycheck while in school.

I understand that many companies have a tuition reimbursement program, $150 - $200 paid monthly. Transtech is in my hometown and charges $4,900. As a new driver, without any experience I expect to be hired in at pretty low rate regardless. Not sure where the advantage is. Take the company training and a nine month obligation or write a check for school and be a free agent.

    Thoughts?

Free agent. No strings attached and you'll have your tuition money back in no time. You should easily be able to find a local job this time of year bringing in decent coin. Your speeding ticket won't be an issue at all for most local companies either.

When I started out with Schneider -- I was on a trainer's truck for LESS THAN A WEEK.

That's not nearly long enough -- for somone/anyone who has no previous big rig driving experience.

Fast forward to the present -- before you sign up with Schneider -- check/ask around....& find out how long you'd be out on a trainer's truck.
    .

If you don't like what you learn....consider this -- Knight Transportation also has a terminal in Charlotte:

Knight Transportation Trucking Terminal in Charlotte, NC | Join Our Team!

Knight also routinely hires & trains rookie drivers...I expect with them you'd be out with a trainer for at least 3 weeks.

    That's much better -- for a beginner driver.

Guess my post came out wrong.
Company schools are ok if they have the type trucking you want.
Transportation to the trucking company school, meals, lodging provided.
Probably sign a contract to work for the company of about 12 months.

I looked at KLLM, which is a good one, but doesn't look as if they hire from North Carolina for the trucking company school.
