Yes - I'm driving. Plan to go home on weekends and have my wife drop me on the 3rd wk so I can go straight out also.

    I'm about 4 - 4 1/2 hours away.

Truckerjeff i picked up a load about about 15 miles away from you last friday night in trenton il. There also is a beer distributer over Belleville IL that we deliver to alot so you getting home should not be that big of problem.

    truckerjeff Thanks this.

hey spanky thanks for the info.. you wwere probabaly less than a mile from my house going from trenton to belleville. was that Illinois distibuting of Highway 15 or chick fritz of 177? It's good to know they get that close to home. Not that I need to get home every weekend. What I need is miles but there will be times when I'm sure it will be convinient. Or maybe I could just stop in the hous on my way through.

Hey Chris, I heard from my trainer before I left from orientation, but due to the holidays we didn't leave out until after x-mas, which was about 2 weeks. We got along really well, there were times I wanted to tell him where to go and how to get there, but keep in mind that its there job to correct your driving styles and bad habits. But for the most part it was smooth sailing. We still stay in contact with eachother and compare miles between us. Life is cramped with 2 in a truck but life does get better. Just focus on your task at hand and get through training and learn everything you can. If you have a question don't hesitate to ask them, thats they're job. I still find myself asking my trainer questions about things I run into out here. As far as home time while your in training, it is up to your trainer when you go in. I stayed out the whole 5 weeks, but got through the house for about 12-13 hrs one night. Trust me, the sooner your done with training the faster you can get out here and make the better money. Don't get me wrong, Millis has a great training pay, but its nothing to really live off of.

Oh and as far as how is the drive time split up, the only time he drove, was when i needed to get a 34 hour restart in. which only happened twice. You are expected to do atleast 75% of the driving and 100% of the backing. But if you get a good trainer you will be doing 100% of both.

    hey sketch
thanks for getting back to me
i wasnt trying to bombard you with a gazzilion questions but i was curious about what i was in for next
having met quite a few drivers at the terminal already there really wasnt too many that i didnt think i could handle a few weeks with
    most everyone seems pretty nice
as far as my question regarding staying out on the road was concerned i wasnt implying that i wanted to go home in between my training time
in fact i am willing to go out immediately after i graduate and orientation is completed
i too would like to get out on the road on my own just as soon as i can
im glad to hear that when being trained we get to do alot of the driving
i do want to learn all i canduring that 5 weeks and sitting in the passenger seat as a spectator didnt seem like it would really do it
hopefully when my trainer picks me up he/she will have just completed some home time and be willing to run through the whole 5 weeks
im also hoping now that february is behind us we will see freight pick up just a little bit so we can all be just a little busier
well thanks again for getting back to me and be safe on the road
im sure you are enjoying yourself now that your on your own and have the truck set up like you want it
    peace

If any of you guys are still out there, I'm looking at going to Ohio in August and am very excited about getting my start.
I hope everyone that posted here is still driving, I've read about every post on here and would like to hear more about POST training and pay.
Tips on packing, things that are a must to have with you, best places to fuel, shower eat and stuff like that.

Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to a few responses from new and old drivers alike.
