Congrats!
I'd sugest studying (youtube and any written explaination) on backing manuvers/parking.. we we're backing today. Stright line backing isn't all too hard - small movements for drift early help a lot. Parellel (driver's side) isn't much harder if you have any prior skills with trailors and such - just a few pointers from the instructor and you should be ok. I tried offset today just for a shot without much instruction (grins and giggles mostly).. only took me four pull-ups *and I didn't budge a barrel*![]()

The hotel in Cartersville is at exit 293 - the Holiday INN..
NOT the BUDGET HOST an exit north... as I found out. (even though the e-mail I recieved said both)
Nice, very nice motel. A.J.'s diner serves a comp breakfeast that's far better than most any hotel/motel I've ever been to. Check-in will be after noon (check-out is by noon); however they have a bar with free billiards to kill some time when you're here.
As opposed to the Budget - where the air vents just make me sick thinking about the dust that's not been cleaned in what looks like two years on the air vents and the towels that are exfoliating your skin as you dry off...I won't even go into the sheets on the 'neatly' made beds or the 'preasure' in the shower that only comes about half way from the tub, at the same time.

Glad to hear things are going so well for you. Sounds like your in week 3. I head out on Monday and if going through cartersville i'll make a point to stop by. In one of your earlier posts you talked about awareness and its very important not to let down your guard as you mentioned. I was 1.5 miles from house Wed. after 8 weeks out and I make a left hand turn with a car at the stop sign. well... as I get the tractor in the lane I look into the driver mirror and Slam on the Brakes! The woman had started forward after my tractor made the turn and I stopped the tandems about a foot from her bumper. hopefully she learned a lesson but I'm sure there are a thousand others like her. ps. she can move fast in reverse once she finds the gear! lol! Needless to say, I felt fortunate afterwards thinking how that would have ruined my day.

Yah, totally understand about checking out the mirrors until you complete the turns... my road test report says I take some turns a bit fast/shifting gears during among other things. I guess I have a few habits from driving a four-wheeler straight shift that I should drop, and some new ones to form. I'm still struggling with down shifting a bit... I'm probably just going to fast for the gear I'm selecting still, but it's improving slowly. Maybe by week two of OTR I'll be more proficient.
I'll most likely check back in for tomorrow with an update on the backing questions I may/will have on various maneuvers. Also, looks like we're due for a mostly rainy day - I'll be getting out the rain gear (yes!) I purchased and putting it to good use.Hitman Thanks this. -
Day (two) of backing!! Got my sleves rolled up and a little dust on my shirt today. Sure wished the rain would have started a bit eariler.. still have dust/dirt in my eyes from the winds on the lot. Almost feel comfortable with driver's side parellel and blind off-set. Driver's side off-set is still requiring at least one pull-up but that's ok, I'm determined. Started blind parellel today after lunch... totally messing with me having to rely on the convex mirrors to back by the cones; eventually I just started using a combination of the flats and convex with where I thought the trailor tandems should be 'driving' to in the box and it seemed to work better for me (we'll see how that holds true tomorrow morning). Howard says the alley docking is eaiser; we've yet to try it - stay tuned, right?

Hello Everyone... been alittle while since i'v been on here...well looks like your having quite an adventure there Dark Knights.... I went thru the school in Cartersville about 7 months ago or so.... Tell Greg that Terry Whitener says hello. Alot of your shifting and such will come more natural to you when your out with your trainer. I grew up in the trucking industry and been driving trucks since i was 5 years old... but even i still needed help on my shifting and such. but after about the end of your first week with your trainer... you'll be hitting all them gears just right. I passed the trainer truck acouple times this past week while i was in the cartersville area... was on my way to Dalton to pickup my load going to Plano, IL. I'm due for hometime this coming up weekend and i have to drop the truck off in Cartersville to have some work done to it so if anyone is there when i stop in i'll say hello. Im in truck # 6062. Feel free to say hello if you see me around

Kinda disappointed to hear not only do I have to get my own bus ticket there (Got it, cost $140) but I have to pay back the cost of the Motel too. In order to get the $2000 school cost plus $1440 Motel cost ($60 a day for 24 days, plus tax I'm sure) paid back in a year I'll have to have the minimum of $66 a week deduction and that's the total divided by 52 weeks. ( I plan on having home time in there to so $66 at 52 weeks are arbitrary numbers) They said it's a $30 deduction,($20 for the school and $10 for the motel) but $30 won't cover it all in 12 months. I guess I should had asked more questions! I know all company programs are different but unfortunately for me I was assuming (never a good idea) that the bus ride and motel was included in the $5000 training cost. By my figures the total cost isn't the $5000 or so that I thought it was. It's now $6580 minus $2500 for staying employed for 1 year = $4080 out of pocket cost or, $6580 if you don't make it a year or if they don't hire you...Kinda makes me feel very very nervous!!! Anyone else come across this situation? I've read and read and read again about Millis, never seen this situation before. I failed to mention that the motel is charging the same rate for sharing a room as they do for a single person in a room now. This is evidently a new deal. Never the less I'm still looking forward to going to Millis and getting to work, and praying to God that I get hired! I still think all in all they sound like a good company. I'm seriously thinking of using part if not all of the $500 week training pay to get the payroll deduction part mostly payed off!!! I know I'll still have the 1 year contract to uphold, but man I don't want all of the payroll deduction stuff going on. What do you guys think?
