Here's some to consider for coast to coast experience:
Freymiller - www.drive4freymiller.com - click on "Recent Graduates"
    SRT - www.southernref.com
    Melton Truck Lines - www.meltontruck.com

Dot Transportation has a terminal in Los Angeles; may not be what you're looking for though.
    Most terminals offer local/regional/OTR

In today's trucking market, a company driver would have to be really lazy to only make $50K. With cpm plus accessorial pays, it's easy to make $60K - $65K your first year.

Trimac Transportion OTR division can make over $100K. Hire new cdl grads from approved cdl schools.

Yes, pony up the $4k and pay for your school. The alternative is that Schneider (or like companies) will own you for a year.

But do yourself a favor, even if you’re heII bent on getting your own truck, go to an OTR company for 6 months. It’s a different beast than daycabbing. A different mindset with different hurdles. You may find that changing your home address to that MC# under your left arm isn’t all you thought it would be...and you can still get out cheap, and experience any learning curves in someone else’s equipment. Daycab work is slave work, but atleast you get to come home, kick your shoes off, and cuss that job from the comfort of your recliner and then crawl into your own bed...albeit, still cussing.

There’s a very definite reason why your 20 year old cdl doesn’t hold water at an OTR company and they want OTR experience. Go find out before you commit your finances to a venture you may not understand as much as you think you do.

Who am I, or who are any of the talking heads on this site, to tell you what’s best for you. But, thar’s experience on this here talkie board. Your buddies been pumping you up with what he’s making, but maybe, what were his numbers 12 years ago or 10 years ago when he started. Could be a slow grind to get there. Gotta weather the storm...

Personally, I think you can do it...if you’re one of those that can do it.
