Starting new job in Ops with chemical tank co. Please help me learn what I need to know.

I kept the cash from the odd 'non tank' washout...er 'rinse outs' using the 1" line off the 50HP pump on mostly refrigerated trailers...covered a monthly pizza nite for the cleaning crew.

 

Make sure every truck has the appropriate permits for every state that requires it. And keep it updated by emailing or printing updated permits for every driver. If a driver comes into the yard for any reason, check the permit book for needed updates.

 

Best to do a ride along on one or two of the most important routes, if it is out and back the same day.
You'll get the whole process from that. Loading, paperwork, scaling, unloading, airing off, paperwork.

 

Though it wasn't enforced, Matlack's CCQM quality system had all of management doing 'front line audits' where they were supposed to ride along and the fill out a multi-page report on how you could do your job better to improve what you just experienced.....

I do recommend going along BUT start in the yard early with a clean tank and have the driver describe the different components and what he is looking at to make sure his ride is "Clean, Dry, and Odor Free' and buttoned up ready to load. Ask LOTS of questions.

Used to see guys in the lube rack at Shell who 'forgot' to close up the trailer. The had to push a squeegee until al the spilled oil was pushed into the drain. Seeing that was a lasting impression on my trainees.

 

Qc put 3 cameras on the truck, all hoses are now assigned to the trucks, and one of the owner operators asked for a raise to compensate for the drag that the cameras are causing and all the new beer and sunshine they are imposing... They laugh at him, he quit on the spot.. if you are putting more extra regulations etc make sure you find a way to please the drivers

Yup, I got some interviews on Friday but the way it looks I might end up with henniff or as a safety guy and finally come off the road

 

Heniff has front facing camera that you have to pay for, I think its $6 per settlment. Also very strict speed enforcements from what I'm being told. PC is limited to 50 miles per day for IC. They also have hose racks with assigned hoses, still being phased in for the Superior trucks.

 

I was told by the terminar manager in lakeland florida "speed gauge activates at 7mph, only facing forward cameras but the trucks are governed at 65 mph"
