Ahhhh.... The good life indeed..
Anyhoo. I went to "orientation" (mostly geared for factory workers rather than truckers)today and got my first assignment for monday. I'm a goin' to New York City with a dump truck and a car in tow. Oh yeah, I almost forgot... A newbie with only 6 months exp will be following me... Whooptie Doo......![]()
He's the other driver that they hired... An ex Swift and JB Hunt driver. I had to ask..Why'd you quit Swift? His response was not different from anyone on this board. No miles and no money. Then his complaint with JB was no hometime.
ya know, I pick on these two companies all the time. I just didn't think I'd actually meet a real life punchline to all my jokes....![]()

New york!! I knew it sounded too good.
That sounds like the guys I work with. they complain about not enough miles then you give them miles and they whine becuase they never get home. You just can't win with most people. And god forbid you want them to work saturday for more miles.
WIth me it's ALWAYS "More Miles!!" -
New york in a dump truck isn't that bad. We just gotta get em' up there and then we can fool around in NYC for a few hours. Then, I dunno about the noob, but I'm getting my happy patootie back south quickly. I know one thing, as soon as I drop off and get in the tow car, I'm going to find a Nathans Hot Dog Stand before I leave. FOR SURE!! -
Now minus the slow period of trucking. But I will see drivers complain about miles and they are refusing low miled freight. Well take what you can get @ least it is something right? -
I'm just glad to be back to work... NYC or not..
the way it works at R/S, you cannot turn down a load within your first 70 days, or you'll go home. Then it's 3 per year.. But, the way I see it, it's easy work. They don't push you to make an impossible delivery time, or anything like that. The only thing that they stress is cost effectiveness. Each department gets a nice bonus each month if the costs are kept down. I figure us drivers have it made come bonus time, since there are only 8 of us in P&D including the director of transportation and dispatcher. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
As far as hometime goes, I'm told that we'll be out and back usually with an overnight stay. -
We get paid off the odometer so I'm a stickler for honesty since I don't want to loose that perk.. This week we caught a guy going out of route for no reason other than to run up the miles. He was in chicago and to come to madison he went up to Milwaukee and over instead of straight up 90. Then there was one other thing too. Long story short his trip should have been like 350 miles and ended up at 530 miles. 180 miles over. Probably never would have noticed it but the dummy fueled in Milwaukee. Boss man gets back from vacation monday, it's going to be a fun day to be a fly on the wall -
Hi all,
Well, my first trip went very well. I got in to work at 9:00 yesterday morning. I was surprised when they took me off the NYC run and gave me a run to Raleigh, NC. I delivered my truck and brought a frame back. I made it home at about 11:30 last night.
I have the day off, and will be leaving for Trenton, NJ tomorrow. So if anyone is travelling up that way and see a dump truck pulling a car, give me a yell on the CB. -
sounds good man.........glad you like your new gig...............

I'm laid over in Manassas, Va at the Holiday Inn tonight. I delivered in Lendover, MD. I had to drive what was possibly the ugliest color combination on a truck I've ever seen. It was a jet black Peterbuilt 379 with a banana yellow dump bed. This thing was set up to be a snow plow truck. I did have fun with all the strobe lights on it though...
But, all jokes aside, I'm pretty content with the digs here. I just wish my back would quit hurting. I'ts been sore since last Saturday when my son jumped on my back and pulled me down. -
They are the scroungers of the sea bottom.
THEY EAT FISH TURDS... AND ANYTHING ELSE.
