I worked for Halliburton from '80 - '84 out of Cortland, OH camp, long since closed. Back then they'd hire someone with zero driving experience. They were tickled pink to get an applicant with tractor-trailer experience. (This was before the CDL) I filled out my application, had a two minute interview on the spot, and was told, "Dig through that box and find a pair of coveralls that fit you, here's your hardhat and safety glasses, now head out back, your training started an hour ago. You're our new nitrogen transport driver. We'll take care of the details later. Oh, by the way, don't make a habit of being late." Yeah, things were different back then.

I drove through western OK this afternoon. Those yards were full of idle equipment.
