In a word, Yes. And it's bad in almost every line of work. As a former mechanic I was making about 40% of my wages from 10 years ago just prior to being laid off. I think the economy is far worse than what they are admitting. Right now employers definately have the upper hand, everyone (who has a job) is working harder than ever for less & less money.

I'm use to making $30 an hour at my old job. I was told by my school that $20 an hour for a recent grad is really good. I was offered jobs anywhere from .26 to .34 cpm. I was going with the .34 of course. I was told by my school and my employer that I'm not going to get rich driving a truck.
Hey Rider. There is that old saying " the squeaky wheel gets the grease." I was that wheel. I called and stopped by until they took me for a test drive. I was offered a job after my drive. Another guy in my class landed a local job, different company. I think we were the only two guys that went off in our own and didn't use the school's job placement. He landed his off craigslist. -
I won't be relying on the job placement guy now, I'll do my own legwork. -

My one buddy got his CDL A about 10 years ago. He started out with TMC. The only thing he didn't like was their policies on the company image. They wanted the trucks washed A LOT. And if there was no load, you couldn't just strap the tarp down to the bed. It had to be folded up and stored away everytime. Maybe that's the norm for fladbed hauling? I don't know since I'm new myself.
Speaking of jobs I have to give someone an answer today. I have "Pre-Hires" from Trans-Am and Roehl sitting in front of me and I promised them a yes or no today. I'm leaning towards Roehl. Better pay, less training time (I'm a fast learner and I do what I'm told), I think a 10 day orientation, 4-6 weeks with a trainer then ANOTHER 10 day orientation and test out is a bit excessive. -
PineyRider Thanks this.
