My advice, suck it up and do it all in three weeks, you'll be tired but everyone will be happy.

and NO do not push back your orientation, allot of companies will make you go back to school if youve been out more then 30 days.

Start now...today if you can. The longer you wait the harder it will be to start...just my opinion. I could be wrong.

She is a RN and got laid off by the one hospital in town. So right now she is staying home watching the kids. I am a Realtor and we all know how bad that is now, thus the Denny's job. Also she is ok with weedwacking and what not, but is afraid of the mower but I only mow every 3-4 weeks anyway. I could also just pay a kid to do it, there are a lot of teens around here willing to mow for $10-20.

So, Hi, n00b here. I go to school for my CDL on the fifth, and I'm supposed start with FFE as soon as I finish there...I've read so many things both good and bad about them, does anyone have any good intel on them? (The stuff I read was quite a while ago...) Btw I read the thread about what to pack...good stuff.

This is just my two-cents worth, but I think that you and your wife need to talk and agree on some realistic goals about what you can accomplish in the next three weeks. The goals you listed (painting the house, building a shed, lawn care, etc) are pretty ambitious, even for someone that isn't bone tired. And when you decide how long each thing should take, build in some extra time, because you know how it is, something unexpected always comes up to slow you down.

If you don't cut your list back, I'll guarantee you that you will just end up tired and discouraged, and it will add to any tension between you and your wife. You may also be so tired at the end of the three weeks that you aren't at your best and the job falls through. That's no good. Cut your list down to something attainable, get adequate rest and nutrition, and take care of the rest of the honey-do list a little at a time when you get home.

What I would do is have your wife find a handy man that can come over and get things done for her when you are gone.

Wow, did that list sound familiar. Before I left for orientation (In May) I had to clean and paint the house and do a bunch of minor repairs so the house could be rented out. It's amazing how much time every little job takes when your pressed for time. I was exhausted and overwhelmed at the same time, and really stressed out. Funny thing is, The only thing left to do was paint the kitchen (which my girlfriend was supposed to do). Here it is a month and a half later and the house hasn't been touched since I've been gone (not rented out either).

You may as well do what you can and don't worry about what doesn't get done.

This. I'll be 22 years married in August, and I lived with her a couple of years before that. I'm not exactly the model husband.

I mostly get by on honesty and admitting straight out when I've bitten off more than I can chew. You know what happens when I do that? Suddenly Mrs. Rev can operate the riding mower and the little tractor with the loader on it. She doesn't like ladders much, but helped paint the lower part of the house. She held posts while I beat them into the ground when we we building the fence. She can even talk to my mother in an even tone of voice, which is asking a lot of anyone.

Of course in return I have to do dishes and laundry and cook sometimes, but that's a pretty minor thing. I mean, she can talk to my mother without losing her temper. Never met anyone who could do that before.
