I am new to this forum and I am glad to meet you all. I just got my Class A CDL permit here in Austin after passing general knowledge, air brakes, pre-inspection and combination vehicles tests on the first try. I self studied for these and didn't pay for a scammer school. I don't have any truck driving experience, but I've been driving since age 16 and I am a careful and alert driver. Which way should I go about getting hired? Also, any of you from Texas here know of good companies? Any suggestions and advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

but what practical truck driving experience do you have......???........as you say....none............

you would need to find a SMALL company that would be willing to hire you, IF you have NO practical tractor-trailer driving experience........and then hope they will train you, which i see just ain't gonna happen.

otherwise, you're going to find it EXTREMELY difficult to get a job with a BIG trucking company, as you have NO driving school time.

just because you have been "driving since you were 16", doesn't make you any more valuable to any employer right now.

Yeah, most of the companies these days require schooling. It's pretty much an insurance standard. You might get lucky and find an owner operator willing to take you on. Good luck to you.

Yeah, that's definitely a good option. Won't cost you anything upfront.

I already found a few BIG companies on the internet who will hire with NO experience.

Yes I'm sure you have. They want to put you thru school so the insurance company will let them hire you.

I understand that. I am just curious as to which companies are good to go with here in Texas and what should I watch out for/be careful. Given my situation, company sponsored training seems to be the best route.

The two that i think might help are P.A.M or Crete, P.A.M is a starter company, and if your driving skills are good you might have to go with a trainer for a few weeks, Crete is the same way with new people but it might be worth a shot to get your foot in the door.

I thought you didn't want to pay for a "scammer" school?
