I am moving forward with trucking school. I was told that in my state (Oklahoma) there is a state funded school that companies hire from upon graduation in Drumright Oklahoma with DOT certified trainers.
A problem arose, W.I.A. grants in Oklahoma are short funded and will only pay 1,000 dollars of the schooling fees. And I was told the Workforce Rehabilitation funding could take months to get any action. But was told Workforce Rehabilitation would pay whole fee.
Where can I go to help with schooling tuition?
Are company sponsored training schools just as good?
What do company sponsored schools cover in tuition fees?

Company schools are contingant on your working X amount of time. It will get you moving. Community College training is far better, but take longer. If you don't have the time or money company schools are prob. way to go. They tend to be 2-3 weeks and then 6 weeks or so with a trainer to give you the real hands on.

I spoke to a few schools before deciding. For the most part many will do "in house financing" and try to get you on with a company that does tuition reimbursement that they do "job placement" for. That's been my experience, I'm sure there are others that will reply with more information on this as I'm new to the industry. Good luck with it, I wish you success.

I would continue seeking funding and attending a good credited school. You can do research here and you'll find out why. Just remember the easier it is the worse the outcome.

Thanks to you both, I'm actually trying to find a company sponsored school but am finding they all require fees for Living (eating), Licensing, and Lodgings.
As I was reentering the workforce I found every job to be either full or pays next to nothing. When I began looking into trucking school, I wonder why I have never done it before. My Stepfather was a trucker, my cousins, uncles, and two aunts all truckers.
But the financing is the biggest hurdle to get past, I simply can find no assistance and the situation I am stuck in right now, personal funds are null and void.
I am seeking to become a truck driver, as fast as possible, but not at the risk of the schools I have read about on Scam Report's website, and this forums warnings. I also want to be as safe as possible because not a year went by my Step-dad and cousins and uncles didn't come home with stories of jackknifed rigs, crashes, and other accidents that occur from 4-wheeler nonsense. -
IMO Sindrake sounds like you are in desperation mode.... and would advise you to take some deep breaths and do more research there are programs
out there, work 2 jobs if you need to. Not sure how much you have researched on this site but there are plenty of drivers that will give you good advice. Just my 2 cents
don't get yourself in a worse situation then you are in now, if it was meant to be then the pieces will fall into place for you. Good luck! -
The situation now is grim, No jobs where I am, and the jobs that are open will not Hire a man with a ruptured disc in his back, regardless how much he can lift or work to prove his worth. Can't even find the one job.
Albeit for the moment I am breathing and keeping a calming pace trying to move forward with positivity and grace. But I do have a wife and children who are suffering during the wait. But i will keep my composure and move forward as planned, even if i have to beg and borrow to get there.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Do you have to mention the ruptured disc? Personally, I wouldn't.
Since you're broke, consider Prime, Inc. flatbed school, then later move on to Melton Truck Lines in Tulsa.
Prime also has tanker school, which is easy money & the hardest work is hooking up a hose to unload. They also pay $600.00 a week while riding with a trainer & will front you the money for food in the beginning.
Once you get a little experience, you might go to a drop & hook outfit like Comtrak in Durant, OK. Check their website.
If you're taking any prescription pain meds. you will probably flunk the drug tests. Keep that in mind.
The only other company I can think of, where no money needed, is Central Refrigerated.
Sometimes Goodwill Industries has funding available for CDL training, & it's free to you. Some drivers on this forum went that route.Last edited: Jun 19, 2013
