How did you get permits to run 105ft on a 48ft trailer? My rusty math says thats an overhang of 57ft?

Back in 1978 when i got out of the diesel academy i got lucky with a union otr company hauling car parts, pay was 27% of gross to the truck, came out low to mid 30 cents a mile bracket. but some clown from a wisconsin based company called Ellsworth Trucking came to the diesel academy and would hire anybody at 6 cents a mile hauling swingin' beef out to nyc from wisconsin.and run around 3,000 miles a week, needless to say, he was the laughing stock at the academy.
