    Well after reading a lot of the threads here and talking to a recruiter I decided to apply and just heard today I was approved and will start 12/3. A little about me I am 32 married with 2 small kids my son is 2 and daughter is only 5 months. I moved to the Springfield area about a month ago because my wife has family here and I was told by city utilities that they had an opening for transit driver which is what I have done for the last 7 years in Reno. Well when we got here I was informed that they did not have the opening they were expecting so I was stuck. I know I will miss my family being away for so long but we all know that right now it is the best option. So out of curiosity who all has problems leaving their family and how do you deal with it. Any suggestions would be great

    Skype is your friend on the road, as much as possible plan your day so that you can contact home when the kids are up and you can speak to the whole family at the same time when you are out. When you are home make the kids a priority, spend as much quality time with them as you can. Being a trucker is similar to being in the service with the away time except truckers tend to get more home time on a regular basis. Make sure the wife has a good support network in place for the things that come up like plumbing issues and such, it took me a while to get mine to realize I could not reach thru the phone to change a tire or fix a toilet for her and she needed to call someone else...
