my trucking school kind of went like this. here is the keys if you get back from shaky without a accident you are hired. i cant remember for sure but i dont think they had any schools in the 60s. but back then you had other drivers that would help you if you needed it. i am not saying that was the best way to learn but you didnt have as many trucks crashing into each other back then.
Starting school in 2 weeks. Finally making it happen!

Good job man; I take my DOT test tomorrow, nervous, can't sleep. See you out there!

My boss tossed the state cmv manual at me and said my road test was scheduled in 2 weeks. Took my test in 2001 with a 10 yard dump and a back hoe trailer. Failed my 1st pretrip. Had to wait a week to retake the test. All in all my cdl cost me $140

Thank you very much to all of you who have wished me luck and success.
It did sound like a hell lot of time (22 weeks). I was second guessing myself regarding if all that money and all that time was really what I wanted to get myself into, but I will tell you what guys and I dont care how stupid it sounds: all that cash and time I've put to well use and I only have 3 more weeks until I graduate and get my road test.
So far, one-on-one practice with instructors have made put me in complete control with the trucks, made me a heck of a driver.
I have a so far 4.0 GPA (I will update a pic later of the official report). All my maneuvers are coming out great. Am on my last week of Blind Side parallel parking and after this is all registry (final road test) preparation.
My air brake is perfect, got my in-cab down and I am still practicing on the actual pre-trip and trying to memorize new ways RI DMV wants us to say and do things at the final exam.
I did/do know that I may have paid a little too much, but after doing my research on NETTTS (New England Tractor Trailer Training School) and finding out that it is the only accredited school in the state and one of the most prestigious in all New England, almost weekly presentations from companies who normally (according to them) don't hire out of school except for a couple of schools including mine, plus the benefits of having lifetime job placement assistance and free endorsement preparation, I decided to give it a try.
Plus, the loan I dont have to start paying for it if not until 6 months after graduation at a rate of $65 dollars a month.
Like mentioned before, although it is a lot of money altogether, the payment convenience and all the benefits from school, I think I made a good choice.
I will keep you guys posted and will share my journey through final exam and beginning of my trucking career. Thanks to those who have showed interest in it =)
