So a little backround to my story...
I currently work for costco and I am getting bored of my job. So my friend told me to apply for a bus driving job and said i'd get paid 22/hr so I said hell yeah! I applied for king county metro here in the seattle area and got accepted for the job. They were going to train me to obtain my CDL as well since I didn't have one at the time. My pre-hire requirements was that I get my CDL Permit (Intrastate) and get a air brake endorsement as long as a passenger endorsement. I go in for my final review before them hiring me and I got denied because I had a license suspension for an unpaid ticket.
A few days pass and now i'm wondering what to do with my CDL permit since I already have it. So I start looking into trucking schools around me. I have no money to pay for it out of pocket but only one that I found accepted finacial aid but the program was 6 months long. Then I start seeing some schools that have a 3-4 week program but they require full tution up front so that was a no go. Then I saw that there were some companies that have their own training programs for getting a CDL and I don't have to pay upfront. First company I came across was C.R. England, after doing some research on the company I decided that I wasn't going to even bother with them. Then I come across swift which seemed more neutral in the reviews so I decided to go with them.
The weird part, now i'm going to the school in lewiston, ID on the 18th. I go get my DOT Physical and its all good. Then after that I go to the DOL to change my permit from Intrastate to Interstate and add a combinations endorsement. I get home and the top of my paper copy of my license says COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE. So i'm thinking this isn't right. I go online and check what my license says. And it goes as follows:

So..... Not quite sure what to do I think the guy at the DOL messed up big time. As I've never driven a commercial vehicle in my life lol.
Starting swift in a weird way..

Come on Rick, you know what to do. Go back to the DOL and have them get it right ASAP.
Did you think we might tell you to party like it's 1999, not have a care in the world, and you're in like Flint?Last edited: Feb 8, 2013

*sigh* I guess i'll go do the right thing lol. I was just hoping not to because now I have to wait another week to start my training. I just don't get why a paper copy license wont suffice. It is what it is I guess.
The only thing I don't understand is that it also says that I have the permit. I was told that the permit covers all classes of CDL I was wanting to make sure that i'm not reading this wrong.Last edited: Feb 9, 2013
inkeper Thanks this. -
sounds like you got more training than some people get. Take a picture of it and then go do what is right. You would hate to be out on the road and find out at a scale that they had corrected their mistake.

Yeah I'll get on that monday. Lazy me was hoping to just go to the academy and just pass the tests at swift and not go through the state test. But so all of you guys have peace of mind I would not go out on the road or apply for a job without the proper training. I was still planning on taking the classes for my CDL.

On another note, the Lewiston academy is a great place to learn!

haha thanks man, i'm looking forword to it. Pretty excited to drive a full sized rig. The closest to something like this is pulling a 20ish foot trailer with my pickup truck and driving a 26 foot box truck

You starting next Monday then?
You do go to the DMV once you get out to the Lewiston academy. I wonder if they would have corrected it there since they reissue you your permit again anyway. -
