Started Swift Academy June 20, It's been good so far instructors are very good and know what they are talking about. Started with about 25 classmates down to 7 with one day to go after today. Looking forward to the test and hopefully passing and going to Driver Orientation. If anybody has questions throw them at me and I will try to answer them the best that I can.

Yep, Driver license issues, the good old drug test and failing Arizona CDL permit test.

I drove for Swift for about 6 months OTR in just about all the 48 states. I stopped driving about 4 years ago. I have talked to a Swift recruiter in Phoenix and she told me that I could come back to work for them and that all that I'd need to do would be to drive with a mentor for about 2 weeks or so. I am seriously considering it. What I really would like to know though is ... what is the average weekly income for a solo Swift driver now? I know that the pay will be low for the first 6 months to 1 year and I understand that. I'd just like to know what most drivers average so that I'll be able to make a decision one way or the other. Thanks and any help will sure be greatly appreciated!

Hi ThaiTexBil , I am sorry but I really don't have that information I do know you will be paid 25 cents a mile to start. Then there about five pay raises the first year I can't tell you the weekly average of miles because well haven't started yet. But there are some threads here with Swift drivers and they seem to be getting over 2000 miles a week.

Got my CDL license today!!, Start orientation this coming Monday. Really happy that stress is over just praying I get a good Swift mentor.

You will cap out at about $.32, but always $.25 empty. You will average 1500 - 2200. Depending on your truck, you should stay rolling. Shop time is a killer. They make you use their terminal shops for even minor repairs, if at all possible. Avg down time 3 - 5 days waiting. Good luck w/ mentor. If you get a bad one, call driver services. They will get you another. Swift has a terrible reputation because they hire anything that breathes, but there are some good drivers with Swift. Short trips will hurt you in making any money. Don't know how they do it, but they will keep you just out of the higher range of short trip pay. My biggest complaint, and main reason I left was their milage calculations. They will screw you nearly every time on the milage. Good luck
jamesd503 Thanks this. -
I've been with swift for a little over a year now, My average bring home is around 700.00 a week, sometimes slightly more, sometimes slightly less, I'm getting all the miles I can legally drive and so far, have no complaints, ( other than getting home on the day I request, but thats covered in another thread). To the original poster, I wish you well in your new adventure here, and offer this one piece of advise. Treat everyone at swift the way you yourself would like to be treated and you should do well, respect is an earned emotion.

Well thanks I guess Jrf7 I like to think that just because I am new to the industry doesn't mean I am the bottom of the barrel. Former Air Force, spent time as a Assist. Store Manager for Kroger. I figure good work habits and positive attuide will always go along way in any job.
