anyone into sirius or XM radio at all or both.

Looks like the last posts on this are well over a year old.

Anywho, Stopped at best buy in Chesterfield, MO. today and purchased a pair of 5&1/4'' speakers as the ones in my truck were blown anyways. Im going to get Sirius at some point. Im just really confused on the subject. I woulda bought a Sirius tuner at best buy also, but the Salesman told me that he recommends I buy one from a truck stop as they are equipped with more heavy duty antennae. IS THIS TRUE? Looking through the truck stop glass doesn't really tell me this and I wouldn't really trust some cashier at the T/A to have info about this.

Here's a few other questions related to satellite radio that I have.

First of all I have the CRAPPIEST CD deck in the entire world. It doesnt have seek/find station feature, the only way to tune it is a manual turn knob. it looks and feels like its from the stone age, nevertheless, the #### thing is a detachable face even...CD deck... Oh god, AND you can never hit the exact station either..i.e. you want 105.7? You'll get 105.5, 105.6,105.9, and 106.1..... You can hear the station, but you get tons of additional static behind it from not being 100% tuned...

The problem with this manual tune B.S. is that Im always somewhere new with new stations coming and going all the time...... A seek/find feature, as we all know, automatically finds the stations that are being picked up loud and clear............ Gotta love turning that knob in rush hour traffic to get rid of the loud as hell Static, because 10 seconds ago some Killer metal was playing and I turned it all the way up just in time to lose the station.... Problem number #2 there must be an issue with my antenna anyways. Im a big sports fanatic, my favorite times are listening to AM 670 THE SCORE(chicago based sports radio.) Along with the aforementioned exact tuning issue, this station gives me nothing but complete static, EVEN when Im cruising the Chicagoland area....... This is just one example, this radio for lack of a better pun, can't hold a ##&*^NG tune with any stations much....

So doesn't Satellite radio connect through that same antena? How will this affect reception on satellite radio? Im guessing and hoping none but not gonna dump 90 bucks on a product(sans monthly fee} if Im not going to be able to get reception.....

Their are two ways to do this. Both require the satellite antenna.

The easiest would be to buy a new deck that has the Sirius/xm receiver built in. Plug in your normal antenna connection for regular radio and their is a seperate plug for the satellite antenna. Channel selections are made thru the deck in the Sat mode.

The second is to buy the External Sirius/xm receiver and it works with your existing deck. I believe there are two ways to connect.

For sure you can get a FM modulator box. It connects into the regular radio antenna connection of your deck and your normal radio antenna wire connects to an antenna connection box between the sattellite receiver and deck. You select the frequency and then tune your deck to that frequency (example 101.5) and the signal plays thru your radio with channel selections made thru the satellite receiver. While the sat receiver is on the
connecter box blocks/overpowers the normal radio signal for the frequency you've selected, focusing simply on the satellite signal that's being transmitted thru the line at the frequency you selected.

2 nd might simply be a line in connection to the deck... Aux type mode. Some older radios don't have the Aux inputs. Channel selections are still made thru the sat receiver.

    Starting?

I've had XM for 7 or 8 years now. Still got my original Sony plug & play system... Radio's were expensive then. I think the radio was $300 at that time with $9.95 month subscription fee.

Best Buy had NOT ONE deck that had the sirius/xm receiver built in... They werent out of stock, they just didnt carry them... I swear Ive seen them before, I know my ACDelco factory radio in my 2003 chevy monte carlo has it built in....... Dont think I seen any on sirius home website either(going to recheck.) Best Buy Had Satellite ready Decks that just had a plug coming through the front/face of the deck that could be quick connected to any satellite dOck...... So spend good money on a nice deck....then pay 80 bucks for a dock too... no thanks...

I didnt think the regular docks sold # truckstops were any different than best buy(ten bucks more expensive.... thats it.) Best Buy's installer missed out that day, because had I known they were the same docks as at truckstops, I woulda just purchased one at BB and let the guy install it.....along with the speakers I got... He's the one who convinced me the truckstop's receivers were more "heavy duty," No commission for you today sir!!!!

And Redd... I assume you bought in the $500 fee.. satellite radio for life...?
Can I pay monthly for say 6 months, then drop $500? Do they even still have that deal?

How has the merger changed things? has it affected you at all? Being such an old customer? I want sirius for the NFL games.... and I think they throw in the best of XM now too.. Hope thats the baseball games...... I did see they are selling ONE dock now that gives you all of both XM and SIRIUS channels, but again its $300 bucks. Eventually they will lower that and give the collection together on their regular docks.. Im sure of it

They no longer have the XM for life deal. And it wasn't for your life, it was the life of the radio. I have upgraded radio's over the years & currently have 4 subscriptions. But I still have my orginial radio in the closet.

The merger hasn't affected me. They did some channel swapping. Dropped some channels & shows... But other then that, nothing bad. I use to have playboy radio also. But that moved over to sirius long before the merger.

Personally I would buy the little xm/sirius tuner instead of the deck. #1 a heck of a lot cheaper, #2 you can easily take it out and use it in your 4 wheeler. They have the fm tuner built in to play through your existing stereo(mine does anyway).

You would have to explain to me the 4 subscription part of it... Basically what you're telling me is: Ill buy one dock and start a subscription for my truck.... Then my 4wheeler is already equipped with sirius(sans subscription) and I would have to get a whole nother subscription for my 4wheeler?? Same goes for home, etc....?

I don't fully understand... Cant you just take dock from one place to another?

Each radio must have a subscription of it's own. I have one here in the truck, one at home, one in my Jeep, & one in my van.

Why? Because I don't like swapping radio's from vehicle to vehicle.

Yea, its good to know someone who likes the product enough to have 4 separate subscriptions.. Because its something I really think Id enjoy.

I guess I understand why they make you need separate subscriptions, because one person could buy radios for all their friends....etc...

Care to let me know what radio products you do have?

    Thanks Redd
