My thoughts are that breathalizer thing is crap from a crap news source. No way that will ever happen on all new cars. As for the big truck stuff we know it's coming and it doesn't matter who is in office. Over time the lawyers and nannies ruin pretty much every industry. These clowns lobby for this stuff on new trucks just so they can put an 18 year old monkey in a truck and pay them peanuts. Anyway, I've derailed my own thread. Back to new trucks.
Said by every man ever. I agree of course but our parents thought rock n roll was going to turn us all in to blood thirsty satanists. On the one hand I hope to live a long life, on the other I hope I don't have to endure much more of the way things are going. Oops, I did it again.
You cannot write off a loss because it doesn’t sell for what you think it’s worth. Also, it doesn’t matter how you are structured tax wise, a gain is a gain and you will pay accordingly.
your right, they going to stick it to ya no matter what. I guess hire a tax attorney to find a loophole
I’ve been noticing the Pete’s. They look pretty nice. The mid roof with a fairing looks better than the high top. The Freightliners look like crap in comparison. The Volvo’s have too many exclusive parts and procedures for repairs. I’d have to get a Paccar. Not impressed with their engine. Detroit’s not available. So Cummins it is. All things being weighed out. Especially resale. Ok I’m done buying imaginary Trucks. Back to work on my old Freightliner. I’ve had it so long, parts aren’t so cheap. I can’t even relate to the new Truck numbers.
Well, I'm with you mostly. I would LOVE it if I could stand something pre 99, or at least pre DPF. Problem is I'm spoiled on some of the luxuries of a newish truck. Disc brakes for instance. They are wonderful. They last forever and there's no maintenance. No surprises with an inspection. I can't wait til my new trailer with discs comes in. Keyless entry. Airbags (I'm not a safety nut but they save lives and statistically we're all at risk). New tractor would have heated and air conditioned seats. Can't retrofit that one. And the ride. And the space. And the warranty. And the fuel economy. But, if they mandate all the nanny garbage before I can buy one I won't buy one.
The Anthem I got in October came with it. To be honest it was less of an issue than I expected. Adjusted my following distance a few more feet, and adapted a slightly different passing strategy to nearly make it stop interrupting my music. After my first day out in it, the nanny warnings were mere background noise once in a while. The carrot that goes with that stick is active cruise control, which is awesome most of the time. I elected to check that box on the new truck that's coming soon. It has not come up on my annual insurance quiz yet, but I can't help but expect it probably will before these two trucks are traded off.
New truck $170 000 with a heavier down payment it is 30K per year and years of operations with negligible minimal repair and maintenance, also downtime. Old clunker junker, such as mine, 15K - 20K in repairs and maintenance - some downtime but no more than a day or two, if planned. There is a comfort of no monthly payment but the most important part is that you can quit and do something else any time, while the new truck loses its value with every mile like snow in the spring time and the bank wants its loan settlement regardless of any circumstances. Old clunker junker does not guarantee anything, even after overhaul, it is best used on shorter, regional runs. I'd like to go with new...as I earned it and deserve it for all those nights and endless hours spent like a sardine in a box.
