I may be floating through Trenton on Sunday on my way to Milwaukee. Give me a hello if you see truck 7077. Not sure yet though. Congrats on passing you skills test. Biggest mistake I think for trainee's on shifting is trying to be in a hurry to get to the next gear. Get to your speed/rpm's and take your time shifting. Slow down, you'll get it.

I struggled with this for a long time when I first came out and someone much smarter than me taught me this. It works well!!!
See if that doesnt help you -Gunrunner84 Thanks this. -
@1500 rpm
2nd gear=2mph
3rd=4mph
4th= 7mph
5th=10 mph
6th= 15mph
7th=23mph
and so on. but you have to look at speed and make a note(have someone else write it down for you as you tell them the speed for each gear. hope this helps as it helped me to recover quicker when i was training and missed a gear i actually wrote the shift pattern out, and instead of 6th gear it said 15 mph , and taped to an open spot on the dash near the shifter. -
Sully and Baritone thank you for that great insight on the shifting. I will look forward to trying that on Monday when we head out for more driving around Cartersville/Alabama.
Sunday Training day 10 we headed out from Cartersville and went down to East Point to pick up 36,000 lbs of bottles and delivered to Trenton Ohio's drop yard. During this trip I took the last leg of the student driving going around Cincinatti Ohio and on into the drop yard. It was a long day by the time we made it over to the motel room!! But I learned a lot during that one trip!
Training day 11 - We were back up at 0600 Monday morning to grab some continental breakfast and headed on over to the terminal to commence our 3 day orientation. Lots of paperwork involved with that such as (Pay,Ins,Company Operating Procedures, etc..). However, lots of great information that's going to no doubt put us straight on the road to success in this new profession.
Wednesday (Training day 13) - I got my first chance while driving back from Trenton Ohio headed back to Cartersville to drive over Jellico with a gross weight of 78,000. That was awesome...
Thursday Training day 14 - We loaded up and headed out through some of the most curviest, hilliest, and most narrow roads Greg could find for us here in Northwest Ga. O-Yeah and loooots of red lights! Great chance for us students to work on those much needed shifting skills! It is amazing how much a student can sweat in the drivers seat in down town close proximity driving conditions...LMAO..Even though we were all nervous as heck we managed to make it back unscathed..LOL..
On Monday we will be headed back out to get more city driving and maybe with a few hills thrown in....fun..fun... Thanks for reading along and everyone please have a great and safe weekend!

I was behind a Millis training truck yesterday (Thursday) on GA 20 heading toward Cartersville. I was behind the truck from the National Cemetary until the road went four lane near I=75. I was between the Millis truck (driving the speed limit) and a red Mack tractor dump truck ( who didn't want to be going the speed limit). It could have been a Ford F150 sandwich if that Mack had of pushed much harder! If you were driving I passed you headed back to Cassville and home.
